50 years ago on May 18, Apollo 10 launched for the moon. Tom Stafford had the commander's seat, and John Young was command module pilot. The lunar module pilot was Gene Cernan, and he took the "Lem" Snoopy to within 10 miles of the lunar surface.
Gene Cernan went on to be commander of Apollo 17, and with his LMP Harrison "Jack" Schmitt spent the longest time on the surface of all the moonwalkers.
