It's not an apples to apples comparison as Obama took office near the bottom of the recession. Those gains were great too. I just dollar-cost-averaged all the way to the bottom and all the way back up. Regardless of one's political bias, you should be putting money in the market.

Mutual funds every month for literally the last 20 years. I buy high, I buy low. I don't even look at the DJIA. I started young and I've still got a few decades of investing to do before I'm required to touch my nest egg.
