Dealing with PTSD

So who out there deals with PTSD? But more so towards when working in the gardens. I have a lot of shit I went through and now working in the gardens again has helped me to let back my tension. However, it's the mental shit that ain't letting go.

And I'm curious what other do to help deal with it when your anxieties start flaring and you feel overwhelmed for literally no fucking reason at all.

Sometimes smoking don't cut it and often I find I'll wanna grab a beer which is far from the wisest thing you outta do when even remotely high in my opinion unless you ain't got jack to do.

ik this is old, but it has always helped me to know that I can't choose how I feel, but I can choose my actions. Just as you hopefully judge people by their actions not their words, focus on doing the best that you can and take pride in that. Feelings are fleeting but actions last forever.

Have you tried cbd oils? They are believed to deal with mental issues quite effectively. Personally, I use oils from hempworldstore but to deal with my chronic back pain. So, I can't tell you anything about effectiveness against PTSD but it definitely helps to relax.

Running is like that Brazilian Jiu Jitsu example in (trail running) that every step you have to concentrate. It breaks up ruminating, great to get high as a mother fucker and run up a hill with rocks, roots and stuff. Heart beating trying to make it, hours spent not thinking of what it is that makes you feel not so great.

So much bro so much! And it really sucks because I'm dealing with PTSD and depression that's just eating me up so bad and to be honest I'm having those bad thoughts that I can't exactly say out loud without someone calling an ambulance! I hope whatever you're going through is able to be alleviated.

I also have PTSD and what's helped me more than anything else is practicing meditation on a daily basis. Doing so has allowed me to become more of a witness to the majority of so-called negative thoughts. For the most part, I simply watch the thoughts go by as if I'm sitting on a curb watching a parade go by. That's not to say that I no longer get overwhelmed but in the seven years that I've been practicing meditation I've experienced more moments of serenity than I had experienced collectively in the 44 years prior.

Just Be has it, thats kinda what running is for me. I would also suggest "Distraction Technique" ah you could get friends to help you or people you know maybe. But break up your day with different activities and have back up activities. Sports, movies, chess, you can keep juggling them.

I'm not a trained professional, just a stoner, heck maybe what Im saying is bad. Fire me :)

There are good phone apps for anxiety distraction that take you through all different kinds of breathing and relaxing exercises. They're very worth trying! Full-spectrum tincture also does wonders, and having excercise hobbies helps a ton too (try joining meetups and go on outings a couple times a week, you'll be surprised how much it affects your daily happiness!). Excercise releases endorphines that last for hours after the excercise session, it's greatly beneficial to stretch or workout a little bit several times a week. Or more intensively if you that's what you like (I do!)
Good luck man, PTSD sucks and it's hard to get under control. You can do it!

I've been battling PTSD since 2007. And learn that immersing myself in things that I love to do help me cope with my issues. I used to do woodworking projects, got into gardening, then pursued Krav Maga. All of which helped me, the only issue is that it was more of a solitary well being. I found that when I'm by myself my demons would attack me quite frequently. And to change that I started 2 invite more of my family into my projects, or engaging in conversation. Even though the things I was doing did occupy my time and prevent me from causing harm to myself or others around me it still turned me into a recluse. I became more involved in a project then the people around me. So figuring out a balanced atmosphere helps greatly. I used to be high all day everyday, now I use cannabis sometimes in Recreation but mostly for sleep and pain. I'm not one to hang around the VA to ask for people to hang out with. But it helps me from time to time to network and get to know other veterans that could understand where I was coming from when I felt uncomfortable in large crowds or I was in deep thought I needed to share. Hope this information helps you. If you need to reach out please PM me. Cheers!-G.I.JOSE

You are all my people! Even my forum name has meaning. I consider myself fairly fragile. I'm holding on by a thread sometimes and could break at any moment.
Mmj literally saved my life I was ready to give up when I found it. Investing everything into it has helped more than I ever thought it would. I am obsessed with growing now.

RIU can be troll'y but it can also serve as a distraction along with the garden.

This is a tough subject so I'll just say, I'm right there with ya

+1

IMHO
I really enjoy my weed, when used properly it provides relief from a number of symptoms and is a great recreational alternative to alcohol; which I do not touch with a 10 ft. pole.

BUT - like any herb or compound - overdosing causes bad things to happen. Blessedly, overdosing on this particular med is not directly fatal as it can be with benzos, opiates, etc...

Awareness and moderation are key -
That bowl of Sour D tastes amazing and 2 rips really took my anxiety and irritation down a notch or two - will finishing the bowl enhance that effect? Or will it bring the anxiety back to "shut the blinds" level? --- Some sativas can do that to me when used in excess.

That's why I generally lean on Indica hybrids when I want to medicate as opposed to just getting stoned.

YMMV

Yea Alcohol is so predominant from the 40's 50's and 70's because of the wars and Vets who came home and used it to deal with PTSD.
Just look at the culture, movies from that error.

Trazodone does help but is overused. Benzo Nation.

Super good point on smoking too much GI Jose, sometimes I feel so bad I just smoke a shit load and am soo lupey it does more harm perhaps.
I have a ceramic one hitter and take a little toke and see how it goes then more if needed. But I'v found with my friends we smoke a lot for no reason other then social. When I'm out and take a little rip and wait I notice Im pretty stoned. Part of it is the psychological addiction and looking for that instant gratification, then you go overboard. Its why I like edibles so much.

Rhythmic exercise that engages both your arms and legs, such as walking, running, swimming, or dancing. Instead of focusing on your thoughts, focus on how your body feels. Notice the sensation of your feet hitting the ground, for example, or the rhythm of your breathing, or the feeling of the wind on your skin.

Good luck!

Cycling is my PTSD treatment. Get on my road bike and just put forth constant effort/zone out for a few 3-4 hours.... +/- depending on how bad it is.

On the plus side it's also taken 20 lbs off the gut I got after leaving the military :-)

(I don't recommend it unless you get REALLY used to biking but I tend to take my Live Rosin in a pen with me on my rides to top off my buzz if the ride goes too long)
