Did I plant in 30 gallon containers too soon?

So I been growing out plants from seed for about 5 weeks. My plants are about 8 inches tall. I wanted to get the plants out of these crappy peat pots. Because a couple weeks ago someone told me their really bad for the roots. I was in a bit rush to get them out of the peat pot. So anyway i hardened off for a week on my porch and yesterday I transplanted them into 30 gallon pots. Now my question is how to a properly water a huge pot with a small plant in without rotting the roots. I made sure to soak the whole pot down good right after transplanting but I want to let the pot let dry out for about two days. But my question is do I wet the whole pot down or just the middle where the plant is? I think somebody told me you don't want dry spots in your soil so you wet the whole pot even doesn't need it. Is this true?

Nothing you can do now but when a small plant is in a large pot you only add water around the plant not soaking all the soil.
You'll be fine but it may take a while for it to dry out

Ok awesome ill just water around the plant. We had 80 degree day today and supposed be in the 100's tomorrow. Do you think it will dry out by tomorrow been two days since I soaked the whole pot?

I had mine in a peat pot for 2 or 3 days before I stuck it into planet earth in May. Less hassle watering than peat pots. I remove the plastic mesh before I planted in the ground. Anyway the plant is healthy despite a few mornings around 40 degrees.

Yes fuck peat pots! I will never use them again. They loved the transplant very happy plants. I was surprised too because it was little rough taking the peat pots off. I did not remove the netting off the peat pod though. I just peeled the peat pot off completely! Will this be a big problem?

You did right. That will keep the roots from having to force their way though. From now on just use solo cups with a good light potting soil for sprouts. {after cutting drain holes, of course} You want to get them out of the cups and into the ground as soon as the roots will hold the dirt together for transplant.

I buy the small white fabric mesh grow bags. (The same mesh bags Jiffy pot people use) I fill mine up with black gold soil & set it in a Solo Cup. Then when my plant is big enough I can easily transplant without disturbing the roots.

Will me forgetting to cut the mesh in the peat pod matter so much? I removed the peat pot but not the little peat pods mesh netting.
