If Growing from Seed, How Soon Can a Top be Cut Off to Be Placed Under 12/12 to Determine Sex??

So we know that you can take a clone off a mature plant while it is in veg and throw that clone in a cup of water under 12/12 lighting and after a week or so that clone will show its sex. No need to root the clone it will show sex.

What I'm wondering is how soon this can be done with the top of a seedling??

(I have some seedlings that were three weeks old when I topped them. They were on the fourth node and there was enough room between the third and fourth node for me to top without FIM-ming. I placed those tops in cups of water and they are currently in a cupboard with 12/12 lighting. It's been about three days now. Can I expect these tops to show gender or is the fact that I took them at 3 weeks too soon??)

Why not keep vegging and just wait the 7+ days for maturity? You don't need to flip to show sex.

They won't show sex until they are genetically mature enough to. So 3 weeks from a seedling is very early, and it might take another 3 weeks of 12/12 to reach maturity.

this is why i 12/12 from seed in solo, they show sex in 21-24 days, then transplant and flip to 18/6, never seem to skip a beat.
i had asked about this in forums and the general consensus I got was that after you flip it back into veg you will waste a week or two while it stunts in re-veg. Because of this, people were telling me im probably better off just taking clones and flipping them to determine sex. I'm just trying to determine sex ASAP to save space the sooner i determine sex the sooner i can cull males and the females won't be so crowded.

Some strains might be different reaction to it, i dont know, but with every strain ive grown, it might slow by 1 day. you wait for the first sight of a pistil, at that point, that day, i top, AND transplant, pull males and flip to 18/6, Never skipped a beat. There will be pistils on every new node, but thats about it. I like to tie them down to keep tops even, and she spreads out really nice for this because she thinks she is in flower stretch, but not. I think the pace is faster doing it like this to be honest.

This is my Cherry Wine CBD, this is 25 days from seed. I dont count the germination period, i start my day count when the First true node separates from the tiny starter seed leaves.

Ive topped her 5 times already, and getting ready to top again tonight before lights out.

If you are around your plants everyday, this is the easiest, less stressful way to determine sex.

Mark one limb tip on each plant with a bread tie or other colorful marker. After 12 hours of lights on, cover the limb tip with a brown paper bag {like you get a single beer in}. After lights out, remove the bags. Repeat everyday and you should see flowers on those limb tips in 10-14 days.

Cool idea I've never heard of that one before. I might give it a try next time I have a plant to sex.

Instead of paper bags just stick 'em in a closet for six days after 12 hours. Last three times it worked for me.

damn thats pretty large for 43 days from seed! I am guessing the flipping to flower made it stretch and double to that size?

its a fast grower, she showed sex at 16 days from seed on 12/12. but i do think that it goes thru "flower mode stretch" 2 times, and back to back almost with just 2 weeks in between. I wonder what would happen if it was done 3 times, lol.. Might have to try that next. But also, this is a CBD, so i dont really know what to expect on this one, but with how it grows, i might cross it with my fire/og.

and crazy thing is, she is so healthy and hasnt been feed nutes yet, lol. Just calmag, 150PPMs 2 times a week, and 1 time with recharge back on transplant day. This is in 2 gallon cocoloco, water when 75% dry by weight 6.8PH. By far the best plant ive even grown, lol. didnt feed her, didnt give her alot of light, and didnt over water her, and simply added calmag. uh,
