if I wanted to whack this in as supplementary lighting during flowering (it's too hot for both my hps in the tent now) a. is it worth it and b. how far away should it be from the plants?!

Not only does LED make more light with less watts and heat, but the plants like higher air temperature since there is no IR raising leaf temp. over air temp.
28-29C is good. 18-24 inches or 46cm-60cm above plants.
