What happened to this seed?

I put it and another seed in a paper towel to sprout, now 36 hours have passed, another seed has been placed in the soil, this one is still like this

Id say slightly too wet, give it few days to see but i think that root is rotten, it looks yellow and then the dark brown which is unusual. Mart be because it has just split and change colour over next day or two but i think its been to wet.

Dead seeds will sometimes pop open and appear to be alive when all that happens is the shell cracks and the inside becomes visible but I have never seen them with the dark tip like that. Regardless if there is no development after a day or two it's dead.

Put it in soil where it belongs. I don't understand why people take the unnecessary step of using paper towels. The root looks like it's rotting so it probably won't make it.

So true. The one I put directly into coco popped within 24 hours. Others were soaked, put into paper towels and then transferred, which took an additional two days. All direct into coco next time on.
