rusty leaves

Hi, my cannabis grow seems to be going fairly okay. However I have noticed rusty leaves on 2 of my 3 older plants. Another thing to note is that all my plants are growing super short and bushy with little space between each node. The growth is also slow but no dying leaves. I think the slow growth is due to colder temps as my high is 77 and low is 63 in the tent. The rusty spots i cant explain and they seem to be getting bigger.

Conditions in the tent are at around 60% humidity and currently I water on every 3rd day. 3 plants on the left are currently be given a ppm of 550 using advanced nutrients connoisseur grow. I check the PH of the water everytime with liquid testing and its 6.5 everytime as the connoissur grow is perfect ph tech or whatever. Also I do water without fert every 3rd watering and I PH down the rain water as it starts at 7.5ish. The soil mix I use is meant for growing cannabis, I will try and get the name shortly.

Have you calibrated your PH meter.
Rain water usually has a PH of about 5.6

liquid ph testing, i dont like ph meters never had accurate test results with them. also location plays a huge affect on rain water ph.
My last grow had PH imbalance before and the effects was way worse then rusty leaves. I think I may have a phosphorus deficiency or toxicty. Not sure if I fed the plant to much or too little now.... Would you recommend a flush?

I will get pictures with regular light, sorry about that I read most of the sticky threads here before posting but not that one I guess. Im not to worried about the bushy plants as i could prune and defoliate. I also forgot to mention that i have 4x4x8 tenting coming in for flower as this tent is way to small.

Don’t ever flush. I use a lot of rain water. 1/2 teaspoon baking soda per gallon of water usually brings feedings up to 6.0 or so. Buy a roll of litmus paper. Easy to use and always right. Dip and read. Instant results. Bet your grow shop sells it. If not wherever swimming pool supplies are sold.

A watering with just plain water will help dissipate retained nutrients. Flushing waterlogs the roots. Never a good thing. Cannabis has survived for millions of years without any help from man. Try to emulate nature. Copy it. Is a flood ever a good thing?

I would not flush as Hotrodharley has said.
I did some homework and see rain water can be alkaline in some areas.
I have to imagine the E/C of the alkaline rain water is still very very low.
Keep in mind that water with low ppms like rain water, distilled or RO do not need to be PH'd the soil will quickly adjust the PH of water with a low E/C.

That explains a lot. I noticed with rain water a single drop of ph down/up would change 5 gallons by a drastic amount compared to other water I have used. Also usually when I water I get no run off. Should I be doing heavier waterings? Could not heavy enough waterings cause a salt build up in a months time?

Only reason I was considering flushing was because those plants are little bigger and i thought they could maybe handle the flush if needed. However if all I should do is water with normal water I did that two waterings ago with rain water and ill do it again next watering.

update: plants are doing terrible, rusty leaf pattern is appearing on all new growth and plants have also been stunted for a week straight. I watered with 0 nutrients with properly ph’d water, watered a normal amount (I did not flush). Run off was 50 the same it as the water that went in. Anyone got any sort of idea my plants are really taking a beating. I was thinking root rot since my plants take a long time to dry out and its cold temps for the 6 hours lights are off. Also I found a few thrips in my tent so I did a light spray of canola oil and water of a 50/50 mix onto the leaves (hope thats a real remedy I was told to do). I got those thrips from my buddy because the clone I have from him have thrip damage after checking what it looked like online (the thrip damage is almost nothing, unless they infest in the roots and i haven't seen it)

If you have thrips in veg a better choice would be a neem oil foliar.
I don't recall what soil you were growing in?

To me looking at the pictures they appear over fed and possibly overwatered.

Are the fertilizers you are using organic or synthetic?

I see problems all the time with growers using to much synthetic fertilizer in soil to the point I don't always say what I see because it seems like a broken record.

When I see that stripey burn pattern on leaves I generally track the problem back to a pH situation. Have you tested your soil pH / runoff pH? Is your meter calibrated and accurate? 6.5 is a good pH for soil / peat based mixes. I have had situations where the soil ends up with a pH value thats way off from what I am feeding.

could not watering until run off create this problem? I’ve noticed with the fabric pots that the water gets displaced throughout the bottom and the fabric is wet rather then it dripping so (ill poke some hole in the pots later to fix this)

Yes. Salt buildups in the soil will make the pH get really low and I suspect that is your problem. Get good drainage setup and flush them with either tap water or RO water with 100 PPM of calmag in it. That runoff will probably be pretty hot on the PPM and likely really low on the pH. You should always water / feed with the 20 percent runoff. People that do bottom feed usually end up with this issue unless they top flush once in a while.

LOOOL I poked some holes in the bottom of my fabric pots then i watered with 6.5ph at 80ppm water with cal mag in it until runoff came out. The first bit of run off was 650ppm..... Thank you for the help!!! You may have just saved 3 of my girls!
