Co2

hey I found a large cylinder in one of our rentals garage when we bought it. Don’t know what it is. I was hoping it was co2 or maybe I could get it filled with co2. It’s in 50 lb brown cylinder. It’s full whatever it is. I smelled of the gas and it doesn’t have much of a smell? Anyone have any idea what it could be or is there anyway to tell? I thought about blowing a balloon up with some of it to see if it floats to rule out helium

I would bet its oxygen possibly from a torch set up, that would be the most common and likely. Its not impossible its Co2 or helium. Maybe nitrogen, but I'm not sure why they would have that. How big is the tank? Maybe its nitrous oxide :).

Any welding shop should know
OK so I filled balloon full of it and let the balloon go and it fell to the ground very quickly almost like it was full of water like it had a lot of weight to the gas

Well there’s only so many gases in these types of cylinders. None of which that will kill you by smelling it. So it’s stupid to think these have mustard gas in them
Carbon dioxide will displace the oxygen in your lungs instantly if you sniff it very much, a most unpleasant if not fatal experience.

Yea maybe a lung full, I literally turned it on a foot away from my face. Everyone is acting like I pulled the pin on a grenade lol

It's just so dangerous. I run it, but I wouldn't run it in my house. I grow in a separate building. I have sensors and alarms because in high enough concentration it can just knock you down and then you're dead. It probably wouldn't kill you to sniff for it, but I wouldn't try that again. Better safe than sorry I didn't get this old by being reckless all the time! Not trying to ridicule you. Just concerned.
