i have a 2x4x5 growtent n im using a 600w system. the rule of thumb generally is, USE as MUCH light as you can get away with using as long as you dont burn your plants. you could use a 1000w system if you wanted to dude, but you better make sure you get a cooltube, and ducting, and a high powered inline fan with it too. Thats the only way your gonna beable to get nicen close with the lighting without burning your plants up. So hook up your fan, ducting from the fan to one side of your cooltube, ducting from the otherside of your cooltube, to your exhaust.

lets say your gonna use a 600w system. Cooling off your light in this manner would allow you to put your light anywhere from a foot, all the way down to like 4-5 inches away from your plants. n with hardly any heat being given off from the light, 600w of lighting will make your plants go nuts n grow like crazy. You could also use a 400w system n do the same thing, but i wouldnt recommend going any lower for a 5 sq ft room.

good luck to u man

you could go to ebay, n buy from a seller called PowerKingshop. they have complete 600w cooltube systems for under 300 bucks easy. just remember that you want the cooltube dude. if u use a regular lightwing reflector, shit will get HOT, and fast. ebay is your best bet for finding shit as cheap as you can. i bought my whole setup from ebay. got my 600w setup for 170 bucks, but i had to buy my cooltube seperate for 80 bucks.

its worth it to go bargain hunting on ebay, but make sure its all brand new equipment for sure. used shit is unreliable and without a warranty.

DIGITAL BALLAST info:

- DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY IS THE GREATEST ADVANCEMENT IN GROW LIGHTS IN 35 YEARS!
- MANUFACTURED BY "DIGITAL GREENHOUSE"
The DIGITAL GREENHOUSE Electronic ballasts are more efficient and reduce energy consumption. The DIGITAL GREENHOUSE Electronic ballast improves lighting quality and increases garden yields.
The DIGITAL GREENHOUSE ballast features patented "soft-start" technology which increases lamp life and stops voltage spikes on your power meter. The soft-start technology allows for 50% less power consumption during lamp startup.
The DIGITAL GREENHOUSE electronic ballast is lighter, smaller and more reliable than standard technology "core and coil" ballasts. It is also virtually silent, no noise or hum.! The ballast is totally sealed, which protects the unit from dust and dirt, ensuring a lifetime of trouble-free operation.
The DIGITAL GREENHOUSE electronic ballast operates at a high frequency (20,000Hz) instead of the lowly 60Hz of standard core&coil ballasts. This allows the lamp to operate more efficiently, produce more usable light for plants and last longer. Lamp lumen loss is minimized allowing for a brighter system over time and extending usable lamp life.
Energy consumption is reduced and on average will save over $60 per year on electric bills.
The DIGITAL GREENHOUSE electronic ballast operates cooler than standard systems improving ballast life and reducing temperature in your growing area.
The DIGITAL GREENHOUSE electronic ballast will automatically adjust to any input voltage from 90 volts up to 260 volts. It comes equipped with a 10' grounded power cord, and plugs into standard 120v household current. You can easily change voltage to 220 or 240 volts if you wish.
SUPERIOR TO OTHERS on the Market!

I won't debate or argue it, but I sure have seen lots of growers buy lights from Ebey, to learn the lights are old and burnt out. I mean they still light up and make light, but after a year or two, they just don't produce the same amount of lumens. Sort of like when you see a tanning booth advertise that they have NEW bulbs. The old ones still lite up, they just didn't dot he job anymore.

yeah dude your sweet with that system. even if you purchase it through ebay, its still gonna be all brand new, all quality equipment. all the products htgsupply put up on ebay are just another way for them to get their product out there. it dont mean that its second rate equipment. Go for the gold with that shit yo, just one thing though -

Honestly, your better off getting yourself a vortex, or a vortex lookalike for your aircooling/exhaust system. I have the 4" version of that fan you got there, and lemme tell ya, it fuckin sucks, lol. i had to use two of them for my air intake because even with your hand right up against the damn thing, there is hardly any breeze at all. If you can swing the 100 bucks it costs to get it, its worth it. just make sure the one you get is advertised as QUIET, lol. i didnt look for that word when i bought mine, n unfortunately its pretty damn easy to hear. But no worries though, it aint like my shit has to be super stealthy or nothin. You cant hear it over a tV set, so i guess itll work just fine.

but other than that bro, your sweeter than yoohoo with that setup. get readyfor a NICE ass grow bro. :D

I vouch for Power King too, I just got a 1000w digital ballast with everything you need (open reflector) and it cost me 430$ Canadian shipped, and that was with expensive 2 day shipping. They work very well so far and are bright as f**k.
