mrs and I have set up a little grow room in one of our out buildings, I know it’s not perfect but hey it’s our first time. We used Mylar blankets, staples, some 550 cord. I have a oscillating fan to help keep the air flowing good, and the building has its own vents. My light is a Aovok LED grow light not the best but they should work. 
We all had to start somewhere. As your plants grow so may your interest and you can make improvements as you go along.
You don't get hot spots from LEDs or fluoro lights. LEDs are too directional to get much reflection from the walls and fluoros just don't have the intensity. I use HIDs and then you want to watch but with good air movement blowing leaves around they don't stay in one spot long enough to get burnt.
I am new and on a budget, I am going to try and keep them as close as I can and I have been thinking about building a smaller box to surround them to focus the light on them better. What MA should I look for?
The little string looks promising, give it a little while longer and you should see what looks like little hairs, if no hairs it will be a male. I’m new also so any good advice that gets posted on my threads is a plus for me!

Congrats it looks female to me, when you see that little white hair coming out if that ball she's going to be a she. Lol
there's a lot of tricks to sexting plants early, one of the best is to shut lights off for 48 hrs and they will show you.
