Transplanting and pot sizes for a 4x4 tent?

What would be the optimal pot size for 4x4 tent if i plan to grow 4 plants? I've been reading people usually use 3 to 7 gallon pots, someone said 5 gallon pots are enough for indoors.

And should i just go from a solo cup straight to the final pot size or transplant more times between? Is there how much risk or benefit transplanting more than once?

Soilless 2-3 gallons, 3-5 amended soil.
Solo straight to final pot size can work, its just a lot easier to overwater while the roots are filling the bigger pot.
It will also most likely be longer before you see new growth because the roots will take longer to establish.
Soil benefits from transplants because of the fresh nutrients the roots can find in the new pot.

I grow in 100% perlite right now so isn't really relevant but I go from solos to 1.5 - 1 3/4ish gallon pots to finish in.
The times I grew in soil I would step up to a gallon from a solo and than to a 3 gallon pot.
This way with a bigger root mass you can water the whole pot thoroughly without worrying about over watering.

You will get faster root development using graduated containers to transplant. You’ll get faster vegetative growth as well. Cup to 2 liter to 1 gallon and etc.
