Cloning issues

Yeah, they all look great! Its easy to diy a cloner. Anybody hear of the fogger style? I had some foggers hooked to mine, but did not use em this time. I did not notice a difference.

I don't use a dome.

I don't spray.

I cut em, install in cloner, and walk away.

Fish tank heater in the water, temp set with add on temp controller.
Lmao @ the fish tank heater. I did the same thing with one that was laying around here, in my cloner (cost me like 40 bucks to build). I'm sure mine is more hokey than yours though. I used a coat hanger to hold it....

I make sure to unplug it before opening the lid! I do the same exact thing as you- toss the cuttings in, and walk away. Everything roots. After a couple weeks I'll toss in a few glugs of whatever fertilizer, if they start turning yellow.

Those foggers look really cool, and I thought about getting one. These sprayers do the job good though. More money saved, to put towards lights..... Lol

Lol. Ya, I bought a submersible! Its not all about looks tho... End result matters most.

Sup Everyone, I just wanted to update this thread on the clones I took recently, all still standing tall, however I did want to recalibrate some of what I posted earlier last week in this thread.

So one thing I wanted to mention, I didn't re-water these cuttings til closer to the 4th day after they were taken, they showed no signs of slouching over, so I waited, and the results were good, so the watering on the 3rd may be unnecessary and might be overkill depending on the setup, container size, room temp etc.

Also I the trimming of the lower leaves from off the cuttings 8-10 hours thing, can be adjusted if you like I recently took one cutting at 13 hrs after the leaf trim and had no issues that I could tell, the main reason for this idea is too allow the whole plant to respond to the cuts that are made to the cutting before it is taken, this way the cutting has has time to heal this area and can focus more attention into developing roots more rapidly and stabilize faster and so on.

The main thing that I noticed to to beneficial above other things, is waiting until the plant is asleep to take the cut, this not only lowers the stress on the clones that are taken, but also is more gentle on the mother plant, the plant is In it's resting phase of the day and this allows for lowered stress levels throughout the plant, this is when the plant relaxes and makes critical adjustments that are necessary for new growth and preparations for the next coming day and so on, waiting one hour after the lights are out helps capture the benefits that take place during the night cycle and allows both aspects of plant growth to see benefits, for both Mom and her clones, 2 hours wait might be doable also, but that's more calibrated for people running 16/8 hours for their clones (they've got more dark hours to play with), I'm currently setup running 18/6hrs and this is why I suggested 1hour, but I may play around with this idea in the future to see if I see any improvement by allowing 2hrs dark beforehand.

Anyhow thanks for reading and for allowing me this space to make an update & make some adjustments to what was previously mentioned, hope this helps, take care friends.

Thanks for the update. Ill try cutting in the dark some time. I usually cut whenever. I can do a side x side to test the results. Ill post it somewhere.....

Hey Mechanicalbuds, no problem at all friend, I just wanted to come back and be clear on some of what I spoke of last week and make sure people know what to expect and around what timeframe, but any given advice can be adjusted to the needs of the person's grow, and also to the strain, as some strains may interact with some variation on what they are able to handle and which handling/growing/cloning techniques they prefer and so on.

If you did a side by side that would be amazing to see the results, as I don't really get to see the roots of my clones in the same way that people who grow hydroponically do, I have no way to really compare which results work best just yet, the only results I was able to learn from unfortunately were from my plants taken right before dark, and these ones taken while the lights were on died within 3 1/2 days, where as the others I had done taken after 1 hr darkness did not show any signs of weakness and showed new growth on the top leaves with 6 days.

I did not discover this on my own however, I was reading an old post here where someone mentioned 5 hours dark for their clones, the thread was from 2008 I believe, but anyhow I hadn't found this information until recently and found it to hold some truth to it in my current efforts to perpetuate my grows, so yeah I was just passing on the information, I found the reasoning behind it to make a lot of sense and I think more people should experiment with this method to see if they also notice an improvement in the vitality of their clones and mother plants.

I may even take this method even further myself and actually start to defoliate my plant after lights out to see if the plants rebound faster and with less stunting, and faster growth of new shoots and so forth afterwards, most ideal for defoliation during the vegative stage, but it may also work during flower, just go in and quickly defoliate a few leaves and such with a very dim low intensity light, and the plant may be able to rebound and restructure itself faster than I could have while it was when it was spending energy while it was completing the task of photosynthesis.

I will report back if I do notice anything substantial from any of the incremental adjustments and cloning ideas I'm playing around with currently, if I get noticeable results I'll post them up, but for now it definitely has shown some benefit to the clones that ive taken recently, and I'm glad to share this revised info back out into the forum.

I'll be looking forward to seeing what results you're able to come up with, I'm actually excited to see the results because from the top of the plants I've got I've seen the green growth, it'd be nice to see the effect on the lower growth also and see this method used in a side by side, thumbs up great idea imo.

Cheers.:eyesmoke:
