It's a bummer but it seems like in general forums aren't as popular as they once we're with the rise of Instagram and Reddit and such. Other groups I'd been apart of have moved to Facebook groups or other things that frankly just aren't as good day to day because the content is more rewarding "in the moment" elsewhere.

Doesn't take but a cpl ppl to get a good conversation going....2019 marked my 40th yr of growing hydroponics....YEAH, been a long road....I've tried and succeeded with every hydro system ever developed over the years and even came up with a cpl ones of my own....It boils down extremely simple concepts....I started with a basic drain to waste in the beginning, and NOW, I am back to the same thing...But I have opted for a Hempy style, just to increase time btwn watering....Thats the only difference btwn basic DTW and Hempy...Hempy has that extra 2 inch reservoir while extends time btwn watering.....If your medium is airy, you use quality nutes, and good lighting, DTW (including Hempy) works as well as ANY HIGH DOLLAR system onnthe market....I have friends who grow DWC and a rockwool friend, and NONE of them outyield me or can match the quality of my bud....There are many means to the end with growing....Fot simplicity, lowest variables, lowest cost, DTW is THE WAY TO GROW....Anyone embedded in the grow community has heard the 3-a-light challange....Expert growers getting 3lbs per every 1000w of lighting...those #'s are even creeping up in the last cpl yrs...BUT, guess what system ALL OF THEM use....DRAIN TO WASTE!!!.....The market wants ppl to believe you need their high dollar system to be successful, and the nutrient market is even incredibly worse....I use a single use grow formula and a single use bloom formula, PERIOD...The Dyna-gro line has served me well....There are SO MANY 'snake oils' on the market and all are un-necessary....A quality nute, at moderate levels every watering, with the correct pH, AND YOUR GROWING good bud.....It really is that simple...It is SO OVER THOUGHT by so many, its madness.....I have turned on many DOZENS of ppl to growing and everyone ROCKED their 1st garden...Always DTW....
Currently 7 days into flower with a 4ft by 5ft closet with (6) 3.5 gal 'modified' hempy style buckets...Modified by having 2 inches of pea pebble basins with a single air stone at the very bottom...works better for me than a straight hempy bucket (which produces excellent buds too)....I run a 1000w HID on a light mover....a light mover is a fav pc of equipment...that with some defoliation, gives me uniform ripening and high yields...Cpl pics attached of current grow (week into flower), another pic of previous crop last week of flower, and a cpl bud pics....Cant sit here and talk about 40yrs of experience without supporting it...feel free to pick my if you need help...I've just retired and always have time to talk growing...YT

How longs your veg time? And any advice on how to train trees like yours?

How longs your veg time? And any advice on how to train trees like yours?
My veg time is approx 3 weeks.....I take my cuttings off the plants in the closet the day I Induce flower....This gives me 8 weeks until I need them....Of course the first cpl weeks, there is no growth since they are rooting...I start mine in 8oz styro coffee cups....About 4 weeks after taking the cuttings I will top them when they REALLY need it....of course this slows crazy growth while new shoots emerge...I then transplant them into 20oz styro cups.....I will top them 2 more times while still in my nursery....when I harvest, They are screaming to be transplanted....THICK root balls and topping is complete...Maybe have to top any single branches which try to dominate...But they get off to a super fast start and get me into flower in 3 weeks or less....Planting younger, weaker cutting into 3.5 gal pots under an HID Light, Is much more stressful on them....The root ball in those 20oz cups by 8 weeks of flowering, from the plants they came off of, are Thick as can be...They explode into their new home.....This method also eliminates the need for mother plants....I've always done mine this way and cant imagine a faster way to get cuttings transitioned into flower...
Pic attached of current cuttings...I use a 50/50 perlite, vermiculite mix....Each cup has its own dome, which is a clear solo cup with a MINIMUM of a half dollar size hole cut in them...Or nearly the entire bottoms cut out...cutting need a increase in humidity, not being rained on in full closed domes, as so many do...I cant remember last time I've had a cutting die....Solo cup domes are reuseable as full domes are....10 days, the domes come off and a light fan started...They work best under Weak Flourescent lighting....The best I EVER FOUND is a standard (2) bulb T12 shop fixture with COOL WHITE bulbs...I have a (4) bulb T5 fixture that I turn on at 14 days....Thats TOO INTENSE for rooting though...pics of nursery....the last pic is a this current crop, 5 days after I transplanted cuttings into the main closet....You can ALSO double up same cuttings if you have a slow vegging strain in the group.....I shoot for 10-12 main tops per bucket, by the time they are full flower.....a slow vegging strain can have 2 plants prunned for 5-6 tops and EASILY, keep pace with the others...They are actually very established PLANTS in those 20oz cups and take off quickly...After about 7 days MAX, the roots find that Hempy internal reservoir and good things happen FAST...YT20191112_161826.jpg20191013_173249.jpg20191105_221415.jpg

Put in my High Pressure Sodium bulb ealier (veg under a M.Halide)...Its day 10 of flower....2 of the 6 plants get too tall if I swap to HPS in under 10 days of flower...Included a pic of whats ABOVE the garden...Very basic and standard set up....exhaust fan moving old stale air into the attic, carbon filter scrubbing the air, light mover cut down to fit MY space...Inexpensive utility buckets cut to make them Hempy style...Some pvc fittings to make a drain system....Simple but a hugely effective system....YT20191113_002241.jpg)20191113_002250.jpg

In a more detailed answer about prunning plants into mini bushes, I tell you what I do.....the 1st topping works best btwn the 3-4 nodes whether its from seed or cutting....A cutting may have alternating nodes, so just chose an spot that is generally 3-4 nodes up...Not an exact science....as your top two nodes start to split, lower ones will tend to come up fast since those generally have more establisbed side branching developing in their nodes...WAIT for that top 2 nodes to send up a branch each....Soon as those new branches each have 2 clear nodes to top ABOVE, do so...There is now 4 tops, BUT ALSO, the next cpl branches lower should have now caught up in height, giving you 6 tops.....Now I wait to see what branches try to take off and dominate....Typically, they will have 3 or 4 branches take off...so I will top any of those.....Thats your 3rd prunning....By then, you should have 10 mains or so....AFTER THAT, I use an LST 'branch whipping/twisting' to control any that are still out racing any others in height...Whipping is just bending it back and forth, breaking cells....Twisting does the same, but by pinching the branch btwn the thumb and forefinger and twisting it in a motion like sprinkling salt into a cooking pot....Either way, you break cells which spend MORE time repairing than elongating...Again, not an exact science but you can really learn to sculpt a plant into a flat canopy....Of course bending and tying branches can be used to manipulate where you want them too.....A flat canopy is ALWAYS the goal.....Keeping all your main tops even as possible gives best yields....Thats where SCROG systems come in....Thats a good way to manipulate tops where the screen governs where all tops are emerging from....I WONT use SCROG, cause it locks plants into a permanent position...Cant move them around if needed, and it makes getting cuttings harder in a closet locked in with 3 walls....I do a lot of lollipopping and defoliation too, and it complicates that too....I also have my method tuned in well, so I am pulling the same yields....NO rocket science involved in ANY of this...a cpl crops and anyone can get prunning to work nice for them...YT

Took the clear plastic solo cup domes off of my cuttings last night...It was day 10 since I had taken them......I took them the 2nd day of flower....So the main crop still has about 7.5-8 weeks till I can transplant these cuttings into there.....Gives you some idea of how much time I have to prune these and manipulate them....think I mentioned that 10-12 main tops per plant has given me the best yields...any more, and the overall size of the mains just drops off, crowding occurs, and yields suffer slightly.....Of course, any less than 10-12 mains, and the space is not filled properly.....THESE NUMBERS ARE FOR MY SPACE AND QTY OF PLANTS I USE....The fact still remains that DTW plants in a similar size container, and prunned the same, can be used to fill half of the sq.ft I have, or 10 times the sq.ft I have....
Pic of 24 healthy ROOTED clones....I will ultimately only need to accomodate 6 buckets, so I will be giving away some pretty plants...YT20191115_015201.jpg20191115_015233.jpg
