Why do my yields suck ?

Thanks for all the support, Those are some great thoughts on my yeilds, . I knew my light was probably the biggest factor as it is only 136 true watts. I will also give it a shot without any defoliation and see how it goes.

Isnt the norm to count start of flowering from the day they are fipped to 12/12?
Has it not aways been this way?
You are a he 2nd person today that ive seen say otherwise and before today ive never seen mention of it
I started counting at the flip when I was still learning. Then I started counting when I would see pistils on the bud sites. Better yields and better flavor.
Edit: I also don't start counting veg days til I see rapids growth. Some ppl start counting when seeds break soil. Some start at 3 sets of leaves etc. To me that's not veg stage it's seedling stage. This hobby requires patience if you want great results.

But I'm still a work in progress lol. I learn something new every grow.

I disagree with people saying it's light.
You yielded fine with your light. Half a gram per watt is something that can be lived with. Think about it. If you did half a gram with a 1k hps would you cry? You yielded less because you pruned a plant that shouldn't be.

Don't bend the mass again either. Specifically was told what you cut is just plant that you will not see again.

Two myths concerning autos is harvest weight and potency. See photo below for reference bongsmilie

To increase yields i would go with a five gallon pot and go with coco coir as the medium. You can use either chem nutes or organic with coir or both. The light you have is spot on for two plants. I grow with a 220 watt 5 cxb3590 in 3x3 room and get consistent dry yields of around 5 to 8+ ounces per grow. Ph in soil should be 6.5 -6.8, coir is 5.8-6.0.
Also do not ever transplant or move an auto out from where it has started growing. It should go from seed to harvest in the same pot. I suggest pruning the bottom leaves that get no light right before the flowering stage begins. Leaves that get no light at or near the bottom are just sucking nutrients and energy from your plant.

Search youtube for "Mr. Cannuck grow", he has some excellent tips and pointers.

This is not my auto this is from Mr. Jorrilla, it was a dutch passion "auto ultimate" recorded at @ 2.2 pounds

Seems to me, years ago breeders would list the time from flip. Then more and more seed companies started popping up with claims of really low flower times. So to compete with short flowering times more and more breeders started advertising from pistols not from flip.

Could u name one and a link please?
And do they use a microscope or when its visual to the eye? Lot of work for a breeder to do this don't u think?
No I dont have any links or even can give names off the top of my head. Just something that seems to have happened over a 10? year period. Over the years when breeders were asked you would see them say from flip, but now you often will ask and they will say from when you start seeing pistols. Just depends who you ask. Plenty of breeder threads here, go and ask a few directly and see what their answers are.

Every breeder Ive grown from its always from the flip. Seems to be growers goin by stigmas not breeders. Which is a really silly way to go, especially if u are flowering a few different strains.
Flip lights mark date on plant, walk away. Easy and concise.

I don't know of any breeder going by what ur stating which is why I asked. @Dr. Who has more experience than most with breeders, Whats ur take on that mate?

It’s not always light.. I’m no pro but a shitty environment can screw things up... just ask me...too much heat was my case.. although the bud was good and even sticky... the heat was causing leaf problem... and this pruning thing... I must have screwed that up as well... mainlining I took off bud sites thinking the top would get bigger ... not my case... if I didn’t prune... I would’ve got more weed.. simply put... I got it wrong but I will learn.... good fluffy buds:cry:... of course light is always the key

I've been growing for 20 years and I always thought it was from flip. That being said every grower I know also knew that you had to add a week onto their time because it was wishful thinking so who knows. Did we all just misunderstand them all those years or were they trying to entice us with fast flowering times or both?

Flowering begins when the plant starts to form flowers. This is biology not bro science.

It takes time for the plants to transition from veg to flowering. Most nutrient companies list a transition period, this period is also commonly listed in botany as the "preflower period" not to be confused with physical preflowers that form when the plant is mature enough.

Counting from flip is an inaccurate way to determine how long your plant is taking to flower because different strains take different amounts of time to transition, and because of the many grow variables which can effect how long this takes. The grow environment and genetic maturity being 2 off the biggest factors on how long the transition takes.

Outdoor growers don't have a timer switch to flip, and you wouldn't say a plant is flowering outside until it began forming flowers. The same thing applies indoors.

The most accurate and detailed breeders absolutely count flower time from when the plants start to show flowers, because otherwise it's just an arbitrary guess.

Edit: To the topic of the thread. I would say yields were low because the plants were small. The auto probably stayed small because you topped. and pruned it more then necessary. The Critical mass should have gotten way bigger if it actually had a 10 week veg time. The combination of topping and pruning likely effected its growth, its also possible there was some sort of other issue that stunned it growth.(watering issue, heat issues, nutrient issues). Any of those things combined with the low wattage of the light will result in a smaller then normal plant and lower yields.
