Hey got a question i am starting from seed in straight perlite, the thing is, how long can i keep it in there before i need to transplant?
Yes i have a catch to try and retain some water that way im not maintaining as much seems to work so far.Are you hand watering it? Seems like it would take a lot to maintain. Container size like Krypto said.
Searching hempy/hempy bucket would be your best bet for good info. I've never grown that way but I'd think its something that you're gonna have to stay on top of until the roots reach the rezYes i have a catch to try and retain some water that way im not maintaining as much seems to work so far.
Update on the little ones.I clone like that and find as long as your perlite doesn't dry (usually sat in an inch of water wicks it up) then you can keep it for a while,, the perlite allows for lots of roots.
But I tell ya, if it dries out your plant can die real quick.
I would keep the perlite in a smaller container while rooting, then transfer out of that when you have an inch or so of roots into soil.Update on the little ones.
What made u chose this method just curiousHey got a question i am starting from seed in straight perlite, the thing is, how long can i keep it in there before i need to transplant?
Well ive been experimenting with mediums that provide the best rooting without hydro involved....gone thru a few cuttings trying soil mixes found one that is working for one so far great root growth while my cutting in a woodchip mix had hardly any roots after 2 weeks i know perlite allows for good roots growth and airates better so i decided to go with that...lot of checking tho to make sure its not dryed out. What made u chose this method just curious
The roots on it are pretty deep already i tipped half the container out and it was still standing good so a smaller container will be used next time...i plan on moving to a soil perlite mix once i have good structure going.I would keep the perlite in a smaller container while rooting, then transfer out of that when you have an inch or so of roots into soil.
Your plant will want some nitrogen eventually. If you provide all the plants needs you can stay in perlite indefinitely. I wouldn’t though!
What is perlite/hempy?Perlite doesn't have much wicking ability or water retention so I wouldn't choose it for rooting seeds. I have transplanted seeds from soil, soiless etc right into perlite Hempy in the past and there are no problems.

Started this seed in all perlite seems to be doing fine transplanted yesterday into soil perlite mix.Perlite doesn't have much wicking ability or water retention so I wouldn't choose it for rooting seeds.
