Why do my yields suck ?

Perhaps some salient points made in this thread:

1. Breeders and the vast majority of growers go from flip.
2. Some amateur growers harvest early as their setups don’t favour the growth the breeder enjoyed
3. We covered some biology for the newbs
4. Use whatever data, facts or intuition, something! And you can ensure a ripe harvest

We got this day licked! The rest is splitting hairs. :)
You edited it after I liked it so I fixed it for you. :bigjoint:

Didn't see him saying anything disrespectful, but i guess everybody's skin isn't the same thickness.
He actually said he was sorry you felt that way after you called him a wanker and repeated multiple times that he wasn't here to argue. Anyway, i don't know Thunder all that well, even disagreed with him at times, but he has never insulted me or 'disrespected' me. I just don't like it when two knowledgeable, helpful growers start in on each other over such minor shit. Can we get a group hug up in here?
He is disrespectful when he starts “teaching” 3 doctors walk into a bar and start talking about stints, one doctor starts a lecture on the anatomy of the heart. Get it? No? Too bad.

I find that its usually the abbrasiveness of the flooring on which you place your tent. Is it on carpet, hardwood, cement? Need more info!

Ok idk what this means but I flipped the switch the 8/21 as of today... opening my door.... My Genius Granddaddy is screaming.... smells so damn good... fruity

Could you name what breeders do this?
Do they use a microscope or go by eye?
Well I can’t give legit stats I’d be lying if I said oh x y and z count from flip or not. But having talked to a shit ton of long time growers and it being legal. Most person to person conversations I’m having , I find the person doesn’t even consider it at first because just like all of us , wrapping our heads around the whole picture no ones gonna think about that at first. Imo. It’s like knowing about myco before growing with em.
The only time your gonna really be able to count days is when you have he exact same mom . Take mad cuts off it. Root em flower and send em off to a lab to be tested then maybe you’d find the days worth counting . When I first grow a plant or a certain phenotype I really have no idea if it’s done or not till the magic happens. When it looks like popcorn round rather than hairy or fluffy. Anyway whatever works for you run with it. Your gonna grow more and more amazing shit with every grow. FUNEST SHIT EVER. when did an alternate universe slide on up and spill over into ours , weeds legal. Shrooms on the way to legal. lol. Pretty awesome to get to live through a super historical time and take part in it. Anyone have any thoughts on when the whole country or world will flip to legal by. I’m thinking 2028 world wide.

I have no idea why they would use a microscope. That seems pointless. Going off of visual formation of flowers is by far more accurate then the arbitrary 12/12 flip. Different phenos and cultivars take different amounts of time to transition.

Please tell me how breeders that grow outdoors count from the 12/12 flip.................It doesn't happen, because the plants start flowering at different times, and you wouldn't say a plant is flowering that wasn't right??
They’re checking clear cloudy or Amber trichomes. The scopes gold to tell if there’s any nasty shit in there too.

It's not one breeder... he could write all of them and it would be the same response.
Everyone knows it's from when you flip... this is actually the first time I've ever heard anyone argue that point.
Ive heard many people in real life.. have an opinion one way or another. Everyone doesnt know...obviously. in my opinion its from when u flip, but usually ends up longer by a week or so than they say or right on time. So if i started counting from flower, then many of mine are done sooner than advertised. I have to believe the breeder would advertise the shortest possible time. So i think its from flip. But i dont think this info is as mainstream as u portray or there wld be 50 posts of proof on here. Just sayin..

Breeder times vary because of the wide variety of phenos in most packs. They usually go with the shortest flowering pheno time. Even sub cool himself wrote about it and said he doesnt understand why people dont get it. He says it goes by the flip not when a grower sees visible proof.
So enough with that...people can count how they want...I dont really care. Alls I care about is that the breeders give the flip time because short season outdoor growers like myself depend on it.

So u veg inside and put outside when you want to flip?

No... I grow them inside and put them out in May and let nature do it. But not all breeders put harvest month they go by weeks
I know a 8 week strain will be done around end of Sept...and a 10 week is mid oct.

Also..i agree with u. Just not as confident in my conviction. I was just sayin most info is super available..this topic not so much

I have a very very very short season to get out my monster plants. In oct we have already hit frost and by mid Oct it's usually snowing on occasion. If I buy a 9-10 week strain I'm looking at first half of oct...
If the person us3e the other method then I wouldn't be harvesting til nov... which means I have to cut early or lose my crop most yrs

When I put plants into flower I don't even write down the date. Half the time I don't remember how long the plants have been in flower. It really doesn't matter to me because I harvest them when they're done. Cannabis is like any other plant and many factors will effect it's growth and harvest time. You can grow the same strain three times in a row and each grow can have a longer or shorter time until ready to harvest.

Whether the breeder counts from flip or when flowers start forming is irrelevant with regards to the stated flowering times. If the breeder counts from when flowers start forming and says 8 weeks someone growing that same strain and counting from the same point could very well have plants that take ten or eleven weeks before they are ready. Then there is another factor. At what stage of ripeness does the breeder consider it done? Maybe they harvest at mostly cloudy while others prefer 30% amber. There are too many variables that it's impossible to go by breeders stated times.
I think seeds are like anything in nature. You can have 2 nobel prize laureates breed a child who can be as dumb as a bag full of hammers. Two athletes can give birth to a defected child. All luck in my opinion. If you get a great mother. TAKE CUTS

Flowering begins when the plant starts to form flowers. This is biology not bro science.
I have strains that will show sex before flip, and just keep right on vegging until the flip, so how's that supposed to work? You start counting it as flowering while you're still in veg mode, just because you see pistols? Science is based on consistent facts. The only thing that can be consistent here (especially in large gardens where you can't check all plants for the first pistol) is when you change the light timing schedule. I think you may be confusing biology and horticulture.

Biology is the natural science that studies life and living organisms, including their physical structure, chemical processes, molecular interactions, physiological mechanisms, development and evolution.

Horticulture is the art or practice of garden cultivation and management.
