There is one of the HAOG polyBX lines that is throwing some webbed leaves early in development. This is only observed in the progeny of one of the males chosen for the first BX. Only one of these has been a severely afflicted mutant, but all seem to have grown out of it. Unfortunately, I will never know if the original HAOG expressed this mutation from seed, but would greatly help pinpoint the "better" line to continue. As it stands, I will continue choosing the best male from each line to further the polyBX cohort.

Here are some further along in veg that show they will grow out of it.

This is the badly mutation pheno. She had a very difficult first few weeks, topping herself and throwing strange leaves. In time, she has started showing normal growth. The other HAOG BX1 seeds from the other males are not showing any sign of this.

Hey man, was up to date reading your thread a bit back when you were talking about your Pollenator. Not sure how much more you discussed it after the few pages I saw posts about it on, but I was impressed with both the price and design so I purchased one myself and am enjoying it for sure!!

I also noticed they highly recommend you freezing the product before tumbling and after trying it both dried and frozen, and just dried, and frozen is clearly much better.. Do you generally freeze your product to tumble? If so, do you just put the entire cylinder in the freezer? I am going to just put the entire thing in my freezer tomorrow and leave it running in there for a bit. Is there any flaws with that idea? Just wondering if there are any nuances or tips on using the Pollenator as I’m just beginning the use of mine. I have noticed I need to keep the dial ALMOST all the way down for it to tumble, anything more than like 10% and the wheel just spins it way to quickly and the product doesn’t roll.

Anyhow, sorry if any of this was discussed as I am not up to date. Either way, love the thread!! Great concise info with awesome pictures. Loving some of the Genetics you are working with!!

gelato 45 x ecto cooler, pre chop
this pheno probably wouldnt have minded a few more days, but i cut it down at day 61 to make way for more seedlings. leaf to bud ratio was very favorable with this one, trimming will be minimal. dry bud shots coming soonish

She looks nice, the leaf ratio does look favorable. Her bud looks most like the Gelato 45. Looking forward to the dry shots and how you liked the smoke. Thanks for the updates.

I keep the product in a bag in the freezer and take out what I need to fill the cylinder for tumbling.

I would imagine that when the cylinder comes out from the freezer, you'll get some condensation on the metal and have moisture interfering in the process. If you would prefer putting the entire cylinder in the freezer instead of just the material, I would test out how bad the condensation would be by first placing the cylinder in the freezer empty.

Either way, love the thread!!
Thanks! bongsmilie

@Schwaggy P Hey so I still have a dang fungus gnat problem, I know I need to water less. Should your pest mix be added to the soil before they are planted only after transplanting and as a top dress? I break up the dunks and put the in water for 24 hours first before using it to water the plants too. I just found some cinnamon but I dont have neem meal on hand. You find the most effective way is to just mix em together and top dress? I heard the DE works best if dry? so I was thinking on top of some hay or stones I could put down.

I know having some bugs happens but these suckers seem to be taking out my seedlings again. I suppose if adding neem meal and cinnamon to the top dressing might be enough to do it? Ill be adding the cinnamon and then ordering some neem meal I guess too. Might have to start again im not sure yet. I have 4 seedlings of a black lime reserve mix 6 days old. And 3/4 chemkeseyxXmasTreebud.

Anyone know if rollitup removes metadata?
Any knowledge to share would be appreciated!
Thanks & Cheers! :blsmoke:

You can do both.

The most important ingredient you'll need for fungus gnats is the mosquito dunks. Usually, I mix them (as bits, or crushed) with the soil thoroughly before use and then add the full recipe as a top dress. This ingredient is what will be taking out your issue. The rest of the recipe is more targeted for repelling other canna pests you may encounter.

The dunks will deal with the young gnat larvae and break the life cycle, but you'll still have to deal with any adults. The yellow sticky traps will handle the adults. These sticky traps can be homemade if you don't want to have to wait for online delivery or spending too much. Any yellow colored paper or object (yellow paint sample cards you get from hardware or paint stores are free and perfect cards to use) thinly coated
with a sticky substance (engine oil, petroleum jelly) will work as well as the store-bought traps.

You can also try to water your plants from the bottom instead of pouring water from above. Adding water to the water catch tray and allowing it to soak up can reduce the sogginess of the top layer and help cut down the favorable environment for them.

You can download programs that will strip your pics of data or use an online exif remover before posting.

Dayum! I haven't found one keeper yet myself, hopefully soon!
I've been fortunate enough to get access to some solid cuts. You'd be surprised how well some seed hunted plants can hold up against the elites (and outshining them in many respects). Ultimately, finding a keeper from seed is a numbers game, the more you can grow out, the better your chance. The genetics that go into the seeds you grow can greatly help skew the odds to your favor.

Did you have a certain ratio of how much mosquito dunk per lets say 4 gallons of dirt would be? Sorry if I missed that somewhere.

I think ill be able to repot the ChemKeseys.

I put about a full dunk grated per 5gal soil. So put 3/4 of a dunk to mix with the soil and use the last quarter to sprinkle on the top of the soil around the plants as a top dressing.

If you've been wanting to make seeds but don't quite have the option of a dedicated space, consider using my previous post about flowering out a male in a storage tote in conjunction with this.

Previous Post: Flowering Male
FLOWERING THE MALE

I usually take clones of males to keep their size manageable. Once they are rooted, I plant them in a 3” square pot and put them in a clear storage tote (pic 1). You will want to keep the tote lid slightly ajar to allow for air exchange.

Where to keep him depends on whether you have a free tent, separate veg space, or just another room with sunlight. For times when all tents are taken, I keep the male in my veg area (pic 2). It is important to remember that he will be separated from the flowering females.

 In the corner of your veg room or peripheral splash over light is just fine to trigger the male. There’s no need to put him 3” beneath a 1000W DE, I’ve flowered males from the spillover light of a T5.

If you have a single tent with females flowering, the ambient light in another room is enough to accomplish our task.

The 12hr dark cycle is achieved by placing a box over the male’s clear tote (pic 3). This 12/12 box covering will trigger and maintain flowering through the entire process until you’ve collected enough pollen.

 Make sure the box is large enough to cover your storage tote before you begin.

If you are triggering a male for a one-time pollination without storing pollen, then timing will be important. Males will usually develop flowers pretty quickly relative to their female flower setting counterparts. Since we want our females to have a decent flowerset to accept pollen, we have to give her some time to develop them. With most strains, weeks 3-4 will give us the best window to have both nice flower setting and early enough to give the seeds time to mature.

 Don’t trigger your male until about day 10 of flower for your females. This gives females the head start to ensure there will be nice sized buds to give you seeds, as well as not have to deal with and worry about a male dumping tons of pollen too early.

This 12/12 box cycle will continue for the duration of pollen collection.

 You want to approach most things in this process slowly and carefully. There is no extra credit for speed. Being gentle and deliberate with him will ensure any pollen stays within the tote. Pretend you’re doing tai chi at the senior center when you interact with him.

As you gain confidence and success with this process, you can flower multiple males simultaneously (pic 4).

Keep in mind, the goal here is to be aware of his maturity in order to collect pollen long before he creates dust storms. At first, his flowers will be small balls (pic 5) that are not much of a threat to your females at this point. As they begin to develop, you will notice that they cluster and start to hang (pic 6). Usually this timeline window can be from 10-20 days. As the male flowers begin to individualize from the clusters you are now on pollen watch.

 This is the point at which you will need to be very careful about moving him around and watering him.

Once you begin to see the male flowers open, the yellowish anthers will be visible (pic 7) but not drop pollen just yet. The pollen is only hours away at this point, so remain vigilant. If you try to collect pollen as soon as the male flower opens, you’ll find no pollen freely drops, so wait until you see the anthers go from a tight smooth sheen, to bloated matte yellow (pic 8 ).

If you find that you are having issue timing the pollen drop, you can wait until one of the flowers releases pollen onto a leaf below (pic 9).

The male flowers will reach maturity at different rates, which we can use to our advantage. The older male flowers will be first to drop and keep in mind we are only needing a few flowers worth of pollen in order to pollinate multiple single branches. By collecting the first few pollen drops, we are containing the threat of stray pollen.
Using your vegging mother plants, you can dust their preflowers to pollinate them. They will develop the seeds no problem while staying in veg without needing the plant to put on new flowers. Here is a mother plant that has never seen less than 24hrs of light and also gives up plenty of clones for the flower room.
veg seeds1.jpg

By keeping your male in a mobile tote and using the preflowers of your vegging plants, you can pollinate as many preflowers as you'd like. After the usual 4-6weeks of seed development required, you can make yourself a couple packs of your own crosses without ever needing a separate pollination flowering chamber or sacrificing flower.

Just cut and trimmed the taller/lankier Ecto Cooler x Gelato. Absolutely coated in crystals and giving off a very strong burned rubber smell. I am very anxious to try it out. The shorter, stockier pheno is still going, I am guessing 1-2wks left.
Sounds good, can't wait to hear how you like the smoke.:bigjoint:
