Coco growers

Sorry if this is in the wrong section, but I was curious as to the drain to waste coco growers, as to which coco brand you use and which you like.
I was going to buy some cyco coco (green bag), but the guy at the grow store said those do not sell. I was wanting to get some advice from some seasoned growers.
Also, do you prefer perlite or rice hulls in your coco?

I use Canna coco professional, always have bar a few times I bought some dehydrated blocks online.
Really its just because its the main brand over here.

These days you need to look out for coco which is mixed with other things or pre charged. Personally I stay away from that because If I wanted to play guessing games I would grow with soil.

I add perlite and im not that strict on the ratio. Never tried or heard of rice hulls been used so cant comment on that.

Any off the main brands should be roughly the same as long as its not mixed with anything. Well buffered and rinsed.

What’s the difference between canna coco and canna coco professional?

The pro plus is buffered more than the coco natural. Though I don't know of a reason to buy the natural over the pro plus other than wanting to buffer it yourself. Unless its cheaper.

It doesn't matter to me, because i thoroughly rinse every brick I get anyway. I have a system involving a shop-vac that allows me to flush and drain 40 gallons or more, until it runs clean as tapwater.

For the second question - I prefer coco in my coco. I don't see any reason to use anything else. I blend about 65% coco chunks with about 35% coco coir - there's no need to use rice or perlite. That mix gives me a perfect balance of hydration and aeration, drainage and retention. Perlite is just a colossal pain in the ass when you rinse and reuse your coco.

Sounds like you got the bricks down. Only way I could do it was pillow case with a shower hose and I blocked my bath drains trying.
:oops:

I reuse mine but don't rinse it, can imagine perlite floating all over the place would be a PITA though.

What I do is use a a 30-gallon tub in the bathtub. I use the shower to soak it, then I use a home-made sump. I took a 2-foot long piece of 3" PVC, put a cap on one end, and then drilled a couple of dozen 1/2" holes. Then I used a tube of drain filter fabric to make a "sock" over the whole thing, leaving the top end open. I push it down into the coco, all the way to the bottom, and it fills up immediately with water. I suck that out with a shop vac, dump it down the bathtub drain, and fill it up again. I just keep repeating until the water is the same TDS as my tapwater, then I add calmag, mychos, and crumbled mosquito dunks. Good to go!

Whole thing only cost me 10 bucks for the PVC and the filter fabric, and I already had the drill and the shop vac. Goes like a dream!

Canna Coco, and though it is pre buffered, I buffer it anyway. Run two to three gallons of RO (100 to 110 ppm) w/ 2 ml CaliMagic and 0.5 gram Epsom per 2 gallon smart pots.
I have used straight coco for years but this grow I have gone with 70/30, coco/Perlite. Thinking I am liking the change.
I also run Canna A&B, Cannazym, Rhizotonic, Bloom, and either KoolBloom or PK 13/14, and Drip Clean for the win.
Remember Less is More!
Been running 30 to 40% recommended by Canna, if it calls for 10 ml/gal I add 3 to 4 ml, goal is to get 200 to 250 ppm in veg and 300 to 350 in flower of A&B.
Now remember that coco is a Cal/Mag hog, full rates of A&B give you the needed Cal/Mag but at the lower rates of A&B you need to supplement with extra C/M. With the RO water, mine adds back in some Cal/Mag for flavor which gives me approx 105 pm, so I add 2 ml/0.5 grams C/M per gal.
Here is my spreadsheet to give you an idea of how the numbers work. A&B for this run was about 260 ppm so I upped A&B about 0.75 giving me 334 ppm.

Doing the math, if I ran full rate A&B, it would be around 550 ppm so I would not need extra Cal/Mag but since I run light nutes the total including the .the extra Cal/Mag is around 570 ppm.

I used a 10 gallon fabric pot to rinse. Not much different than a pillow case but it's definitely strong enough.

Nice schedule. I'm just finishing my first Canna Coco grow, using Canna Coco / perlite and Canna Coco nutrients. I use about 1/3 to 1/2 strength of Rhizotonic, Parts A/B, Boost and npk 13/14. Then, 1 TSP per gal of cal-mg. I think the epson salt addition is a great idea. Nice share!

I use Cannazym, Rhizotonic at Cannas recommendation, Boost at the low end of the recommendation until the last two weeks of flower and I kick it up a notch.
What is you EC or PPM?
