Thinking of changing from HPS 1000 to MarsHydro 2000w LED......

just looking into,, not ready to buy yet

just lookin into it askn how it works, for right now
Well if you look at the coverage , 120cm x 60cm for one of those mars ts 2000s , your looking at 4 of them to properly light up a 8x4.
Which comes in around $1000, still works out expensive.

If your up for it you could build a light to replace your HPS and get it done a lot cheaper, though still would seem expensive in comparison to HPS.
Maybe have a look at LEDgardeners strip builds over on his site if you fancy learning more.

Or maybe consider looking into CMH lighting, thats kind of half way between LED and HPS as far as price point.
Though im sure all the CMH guys would argue it beats LED.

Its all going to depend on how much of that space of your you want to light up as to what might be best i think.

End of the day i imagine your HPS still grows weed like it always did.
I can tell you this though, to save you going through the pain of wasted investments, there are no magical lights for dirt cheap that will beat a HPS with only a quater of the power consumption.
Best we can do is knock of 30-40% of the power consumption and heat.

If your in no rush i would recommend doing a bit of reading and building something yourself buying parts when you can afford.

The large LPs in Canada don't use LED lights because they are not cost effective and these guys spend millions on lighting and are constantly doing cost annalists.

Everyone knows you replace a HID bulb when it loses 10 percent of its light output about 5000 hours. What LED users don't know is the life span of a LED light is based on LD30 in other words its based on the light loosing 30 percent of its output by the end of its rated life span. If it is rated for 50000 hours that translates into needing to replace LED units by 20000 hours when they have lost more then 10 percent of their light output.

BTW just for fun lets say your using 300 watts less per month using LED lights in BC Canada that is a saving of $12.47 for a month. Wow you saved one meal or a six pack. So if you paid more 1247.00 for the led light that means it will pay for itself in savings in a 100 months or 8 years IF LED lights don't dim over time but they do.

Even if you were right and quality LEDs only lasted 4x as long as traditional HID lights, and if you were right that $12 per month were all you would save in lighting costs, you're ignoring the biggest cost savings in your HVAC setup. Both in the initial investment and monthly cooling costs. But even so, the quality and efficiency of LEDs is improving dramatically while costs are starting to come down.

LOL I bought into LED back in 2000 when i got 400 watt UFO led light that was outproduced by 80 watts of florescent lighting. 19 years later and they are still just getting there. FYI 400 watts of led lighting at "80 lumens per watt" produces more heat then 400 watts of hps lighting at "160 lumens per watt".

We will all know when we have got there multi million dollar legal grows will all start using LED rather then HPS lighting for flowering until then I will continue to enjoy the weed I grow using HID that cost me about 46 cents a gram.

BTW by using a cool tube on the HID lights to exhaust the extra heat by fan means i don't run any A/C. Note I don't grow in the summer time when the A/C is used to cool the house. Too bad you can't do the same with LED lights eh.

what I mean was that ya get more grams with the HID then ya do LED grow lights ???
The big Legal producers still use HID because they are more cost effective. Meaning its cheaper to produce bud under HPS then it is under LED lighting. There are some LED lights that equal or are better then HPS watt for watt but there extra costs upfront make them a less cost effective then HPS lights even in the long run.

That will change but I've been waiting 19 years for LED lights to live up to their potential for being more cost effective then HID lights, so i would advise not holding your breath until it does.

Yeah its not cheap to replace a 1000w hps with an LED that will perform.

Whats your aim wanting to swap and how much of the 8x4 do you use for flowering? Hard to imagine your covering it all with a 1000w HPS.
about 400-600 w of hlg or solskin will replace a hps i did not think it would but these boards have hella changed my mind

The thousands of better growers using them didn't change your mind?

It took 2 weeks with 1 struggling hempy plant to do it?

Full of yourself

Sad
