What is a waterfarm?

Hey RIU, I've been a long time follower but never had the time or the space to grow. I just recently bought a GH waterfarm and i am using it for 2 beans of an unknown but good strain. I know I will need to get another one to place one plant in each but for now 1 will have to do. my question is how do i place the seedlings in the hydroton and where do i place them, outside or inside the ring ? how deep do i place them (they are 5'' tall) and what is ppm. this is my first grow and i can't afford to mess it up. any positive feedback is appreciated .

Hi celow,

Below is a link to the scottyballs wf grow, this thread was my model for my first grow and there quite a few wf users on riu that swear by it as well. If you read it, it will answer all of your questions.

yes the 1/2 line plugs right into the drip ring.. you will need a extra 1/2" elbow too so it ..go's straight overtop the waterfarm.. I had a extra waterfarm drain elbow and used that but they can be found at any hardware store..
Good morning, thank you for all the information you have supplied. I am ready to start your new drip system with reservoir and wanted to ask you what brand adjustable water pump you use, and when attaching the 1/2" line to the drip ring, do you plug the airline hole above the drip line connection? Also not quite sure on the 45 degree connection works on the drip ring, is 45 degree over to the drip ring then another 45 degrees to bottom of drip ring? Would certainly appreciate you response. Thanks

Here is a quick sketch i did with paint brush should give you a idea what im doing.. Also the stream coming out the drip ring is nice and straight and no longer spits and splatters all over the place i no longer have a problem with salt caking up on the ring and around the bucket and walls.. its working really really good and much less work.. larger resivor also means more stable ETC and ph.. Make sure the pump is adjustable I have mine down on low and its just right .. I had it on high and it pumps so fast the bottom bucket was filling faster then it could drain.. you want a nice steady stream not a hard squirt .. or you could insert a adjustable valve inline if you prefer but you guys should know my motto by now keep it simple..

I call this the CFW setup continious flow waterfarm.
Scotty, I know this thread is old but i need your help I beleive in your methods. Your reservoir is genius but i dont understand how to attach the hose from the pump. Are you using the long tube that fits into the "t" and attaching the hose to that? Or are you just plugging into the "t". If you are just plugging into the t like you told the other guy, how does the drip ring stay in one place if it doesnt use the long tube anymore? How are you securing the drip ring with the pump hose attached??? One more thing, did you plug the hole where the air line used to go or just let it be open and shoot water out of it? If you see this it will be a miracle. Thanks for any advice i have followed your stuff and i have the upmost respect for you.

K so i decided because there is no way scotty is going to see this, and this thread is dead, I managed to do it on my own and answer the questions.... the 1/2 inch hose does not simply plug into the T fitting. I had to cut a short stub from the brown tube that fits into the t fitting, then you can stuff a half inch hose into that. I used his 90 degree elbow as well. The reservoir is genius and makes it so much more easy to change the bucket. I will be following scotty method except for the nutes. Reply to this i will get a pic if needed. Otherwise i know this is a dead thread

so the top res drains directly into the black bucket? and then there's a waterpump in the black bucket pumping up to the drip ring in the top res? and there isn't any water in the top res, just roots?

Just a tip, if nobody has mentioned it already. Run the waterfarm on a timer. This is important to prevent root rot. With expanded clay pellets set it to run for 20 minutes every 4 hours when the lights are on and you shouldn't need it to run at all with the lights off. Basically like flood and drain timing. I have ran these before and root rot was always an issue unless a timed setup is used.

weird, i've never had rot with my WFs. you didn't have any issues with no DO during the 12hrs of dark? i run mine with Southern Ag GFF about 2 mL once a week
