How many EB Gen 2 strips 1mx1m?

Digikey has 600mm EB Gen 2s for $4.80 which seems like a good deal.
How many would i need in 1x1m?

40 inches (1 meter) divided by 3 inch spacing.. 10 or 11 would give you excellent coverage. With 11.. Meanwell 240h 1050 wired in series 11 x 19.5v). If driven at 700ma..no heat sink needed. Driven at 1050ma.. Sheet of aluminum.. Install meanwell outside tent to control heat..

Even 10 is great.

Thanks. The datasheet says @700a the 560mm strip puts out 2460lm so how would 10 of those work, thats not enough...or?

Take the voltage multiplied by the current to give watts per strip, then work out the driver, a constant current driver will have a voltage range which will let you know how many strips you can fit on it, or a constant voltage driver to match the individual voltage of the strip will allow you to have any amount of strips provided your not having so few you power over the max current limits of the strip.


The HLG 320-20 will do you if you wire it parallel but will only put out 13.34amps so 260w so its a poor choice. (not filling out the driver)
The HLG 320-c1050 would allow you to use 15 strips and get 300w.
The HLG 320-c1400 would allow 11 strips to get 297w ish. Again a poor choice having to power them hard and not get the most usage of the driver. Might be over the strips max current, I haven't checked.

9 strips on a hlg 185c1050 should give you 184w so 18 strips on two drivers would smash it and should cost similar to the hlg 320.
Granted your paying for 18 strips but your getting good performance, great amount of light and can dim. It would also give you the option of say a 3500k or 4000k set up on one driver and 2700k or 3000k on the other so you can run one in veg and both with a lean toward more red for flower.

That would be a lot of voltage and i believe the connectors are only rated for 300V. Also as for safety its recommended to work with lower voltage/parallel connections. The lower voltage CV drivers tend to not output the whole wattage of the driver but remember you can allways use a 42V driver and use 2 strips in series. This also reduce wiring somewhat which can get well complicated with so many strips.

The first answer has a link to a build, 9 Gen2s on a 185c1050 , 184W, if i swap my 1x1m for a 3x3ft thats about 20w/sqft...isnt that a little on the low side?

Have my first A/B here, but unused.
Voltage and A can be set internal, A type style.
And the 3 way dimming is working with PWM.
It isnt stated in the meanwell datasheet what he does internally when connecting the 100k pot, but i will asume it generates a internal PWM pulse for the dimming, as it can go from 0-100%.
Never checked this in deep, but it should be good enough for our purpose.

Plan with the 40W A/B driver is to max it out V and A wise and dim by PWM over the 100K pot, external, for max efficiency.

Edit: PWM , switches on off in a fast pace, it isnt the current which will be regulated like the screw i nthe A type will do.

regarding the CC drivers.
True the vestas dont fit well with their 20 something volt.

I like the EB 3 slime therefore, they run between 10 something and 10.9V.
A HLG320 2100B could drive 14 strips in series ( i used this in a 4P setup).

Think i measured 153V, which is quite the max the HLG can deliver.

Had 327W at the wall ( while this unit idont measure precise) and the driver was very cool.
For me quite ideal, as 2.1A is easy to deal with, i dont like 6A on a AWG18.
Also the HLG320 2100B is one of the most effiecient in their test reports using 230V.

Eb3slim insulation is rated for 60v probably better to use CV driver's. Would be good to check eb2 datasheet make sure your within the range.

whats your source regarding the insulation, no limit there in the eb3 slim datasheet?
And what insulation do you mean? the solder stop mask? Or the connectors who are seperated by a half inch?

That piece of info is real important, is that 60V max for the connectors? Where can i find more info on this??

well even the small lite-trap ones are rated for 160V.

And this could just mean the plastic insulation of the metal itself,
the metal itself have no voltage rating just a thickness/size which will give a resistance and therefore a A llimit.

Regular solderstop is rated for 1KV.

You should use nylon washer anyway on the eb3 strips, to not damage the solderstop.

@1212ham , you may can jump in.
