UV Suppliment Lighting

You might want to make sure everyone knows that that is supposed to be 3' / 3foot, not 3". :D

I have a question regarding this type of supplemental lighting. If one has to hang, say, a UV fixture 3' above the canopy, and the main lighting is obviously below that height - between the canopy and the UV light, does one just accept the big shadows/dead spots created by the fixtures below the UV light?
Am I trippin'? It's possible, haha.
yeah thats not ideal. also because UV light, esp this direct uv light is harmful to anything it touches including the leds you hang below it. better to have the UVs below your main rig if possible.

How would you do that? You know, if the UV is recommended to be at 3feet above the canopy...
Lol.

my lights will be at 3 feet , more than enough power to do so ( at least for me )

Lol.
Use a different UVB light that can be hung closer. Ideally at the same height you hang your main bank. There are recommendation back in this thread for lights that can be hung 12” from canopy. I think the Arcadia 12% is one. The Arcadia 14% was suggested at 16-20”.

I'll have a search for that in the thread later. Thank you, Merlin.
I'm looking to supplement Rspecs and 360 Elite boards/fixtures. I think the max they'd be hung in flower would be...24"? Maybe 28"? But I could be wrong, kinda going from memory of what I've heard.

So looking for knowledge and advice , I have a 4 x 4 tent , running 2 Q.B.260 v2 from H.L.G.
What exactly would be recommended to perk up the ladies , Will 1 fixture at 4' of uv bulb work ?
at what wattage ,? and can it be ran for the 12 hour light period ?

all in all what will help me the most ? and can I get it on amazon ?

thanks , my friends for any advice
Just got this in to try out(thanks Stephen from HLG)
Forget all the rest, here is the best.
Simple, well made, powerful, and plants start to stink 5 min after they're under it. One will do 4' by 4' foot to 5 by 5 foot.
This is well built and the best option on the market period.

That’s specifically a UVA bar. My research is pointing to UVB for increased potency.

You must be one of the testers, haha? Do you have much experience with them, I guess not much yet if you just got this. Just looking for more information on them, as well.
Thank you.

@nachooo @twalte, Just found this online store for UVB/A bulbs "designed" for home phototherapy use. There is narrow and wide band UVB bulbs, philips brand from what I can see. Anyway I'm just sharing it here because I haven't come across it yet. I doubt it's much use, the UVB look quite expensive too, and mostly 6 foot.

I have been hoping someone would chime in on experience with the HLG UVA. Surely someone has completed a run with the previous version. By the time I land 2 of these in Canada your pushing $500 cdn. I can't afford to chuck money away unless proven. THe fact no one was in awe of these already concerns me. Someone on GC had them and was going to do an update. They never followed up. I am not a member there so didn't ask questions.

there is contact info available, call them or email if you want to know.. I will wait for the HLG light I think before any more UV investments
Which HLG light are you referring to? Also, you're in canada right? Where do you get your fluorescent UVB bulbs? I can't find any canadian online retailers.

I want to know this as well (more info, completed run for ex.). They are only UVA as you know though. What's the thread on GC; link?
There was a guy (bob ross avatar?) here who had a Rspec with UVA bar review thread but I think he disappeared or something happened.

They were 99 at hlg I think. I wonder if the board only will be back.. Looks like the new solution is with a built in driver. I also think it may have a glass cover, being waterproof. Apparently only special glass for UV. @oldbeancounter is there glass covering the UV diodes?

I didn't even think about that - good question, man. You might even @ one of the hlg guys for info about that. Looking at the picture on their website with my eyeball pressed up agains the monitor I can't see one...

Glass cover with built in driver and heavy heatsink forms waterproof unit.
I also run 160 watts of Solocure bulbs T-8.
I will be adding this to next grow as the results were that good this grow I wanted to go even higher with UV.
Soild frost throughout each bud.
I ramped UV up slowly from seedling till harvest.
It is an excellent buy.

I’ve finished a grow with the previous UV bar they had. Well, 4 of the diodes were and still are messed for a majority of that grow.
I started the 4hrs at the end of the light cycle at week 5 as suggested on the bar. I had an issue with my deheuy going out and I can confirm their previous UV strip does jack shit nothing to pm. It didn’t mind it at allI also found a few spider mites like at the two last weeks. Starting from bottom to mid range of the plants. There weren’t any spider mites in any top parts of the plants.
The plants were greasier and louder than any plants I’ve ever grown. Still curing that atm.
If you’re skeptical you got to try it yourself

Wait, so you already run Solocure UVB/A bulbs?
And you will be adding what next grow, the HLG UVA to the Solocure, or the Solocure to the HLG UVA?

Thanks.

I did use strip briefly but also had four 32 watt -48" Solocures t-8's running in 9 by 5 foot tent long with two strips of UV till the strip failed and then HLG replaced with new unit all in one kinda thing.
Would I suggest adding some sort of UV to your grow, yes , makes for alot of frost plus ramps up the terps.
Both work, HLG is lot cooler and brighter per watt.
I also found this helps your terps,
