600w hps good enough?

So I've got a 600w hps for my 80x80x160 tent and I'm hoping to do 4 indica plants from seed to harvest. Would this light be OK for this size tent?

This is pretty much light & heat for a 80*80 area. If you do this, you need to take extra care of ventilation and heat controll. Or upgrade to a 1.20*1.20 tent.

I'm managing the temp to 23.5c. I've got he 80x80 due to space that I'm limited to. Maybe I might change light to a lower wattage. Thanks for posts guys

I wouldn’t go to a lower wattage...if anything, you don’t have enough light for a space that big. That’s why I recommended to limit your growing footprint to where the light is the most intense.

edit....are you talking centimers or inches when you say 80x80?

600w light is a good size for that tent. It's said that a 600w can cover a 4' x 4' (122x122) footprint, but I find the outer edges to be lacking. Should work great for you. You'll definitely have to have an inline exhaust fan and some circulation fans.

Those temps are good, and might benefit from going closer to 26c - 27c. You've got the right light.

600hps is real nice for a 3.5x3.5 canopy, full 4x4 suffers around edges a little but still good.

It did well for me in my 4x4

Is your fixture a cool tube or air cooled hood? Or just the old school batwing?

Heat management will be one of your main priorities , I had 440 cfm exhaust running half to exchange air but I still ran into temp jumps into 80s at times and the plants did not like that at all.

Best of luck

As long as you can keep temps under control it will produce.

see below
You're good in that space.
Gives you roughly 66w per sq/ft.
50w is plenty.
I get 57w per sq/ft and just now lowered my lights on day 47 with Autos from 36" to 24" ...600w HPS and 315w CMH in a 48"x48". Make sure to get an air cooled hood or a cooltube. Otherwise your tent will be 90F+.

I redid the math and get 85 watts.sf...about twice what it should be.

My light is the old school one as I got it given to me by a friend to get started this is my first one I've ever grown before. Temps are fine with circulating fans
