HLG Light usage

Im a newbie. In the past there were no dimmers and few could measure.

Buy a dr meter lux meter. Period. Then reference your go to reference site, say growweedeasy and look at their recommendations.

You can then start with their reco, and use what the others here tell you -- the correct lighting lies between when they stretch (too little) and when they burn (too much).

If you learn about umols, there is a conversion based upon your lighting temperature you can use to roughly convert to lux so your meter will help.

I am not sure why more experienced growers feel the need to haze newbies i.e. instead of either helping or not, they offer criticism of having asked a question. Ignore it and look for those who help.

I'm glad someone finally understands how I feel. If you are not willing to help, at least don't do more harm. Thanks for your time and feedback, I appreciate it!

She is mesmerizing... Hope one day I'll manage to grow one like this. Good job!
Thanks
Like I said it's been a slow veg, not because of problems just mediocre PAR, not vegging hard, just chillin. In a few weeks I'll break out the solo cups and take a bunch of clones for a flower run.

Incidentally I add fish hydrolysate for protein and nitrogen in veg (the masterblend formula is for flowering, low N).

Advanced Nutrients pH perfect (micro, grow, bloom). I want to switch to something else.
I see and hear a lot of good things about jacks 3-2-1 though having to import it prices it out for me.
I stick to canna coco A+B , used it for a long time, nice and simple.

Typically I start seeds with a 20w cfl because you can get it seriously close without issues.
My boards are all in use and too much for that purpose so I built a 60w clone /seed light using bridgelux strips, at 2ft it was still too much, at 30" it seemed ideal.
The QBs are a bit more efficient still and diodes more dense, I would go less than 50w , start high and lower after 4 days , that should give you time to spot any stress.

I always made the mistake of starting with my lights too high and my plants would stretch like crazy!!! I don't do that anymore!!! You just have to feel it and know... Go and watch enter the dragon... Pay attention to the things that Bruce Lee said to his student... Don't think, feeeel!!!

Man, you come right out of a comic book.

Your plants will tell you if there happy you just need to tune into them (sound like a hippy ) no offence to hippies !
Anyone can throw a few beans into some dirt it’s all about knowing your plants keep an In depth log of your grow and fine tune

I actually have like 8 cfls from when I started. I kinda forgot about them, I should use them for seedlings.

Oh forgot to mention, for the people wondering about hanging lights: go download a lux meter and convert to PAR. I use the PAR calculator on the HLG website because my lights are from HLG. The spectrum conversions are for newer boards than what I have (pretty much all of them except rspecs, a few 288v2), but it's close enough (within 50 par +/-, I think [I hope]).
