I agree, it looks like to get the plant out of the ground, the taproot got caught as it came up.
Put on gloves and super carefully bury everything white, leave the darker portion sticking out with the leaves. If it doesnt take well after a few days discard imo. It should make it though if u are careful.

Lol this is hilarious I was looking for a thread to post this picture! I found an old trey of seedling I started in peat pods and half didn’t pop.. I didn’t wash out the container I just threw the trey to the side.. I look over today and a root is sticking out of the top ?!?

It happens. I had seeds pop in 2 to 3 days, a few straggling to 4 or 5. At day 10 i opened the peat pot that didnt germ and there it was, germed but tiny. I grew it out and it is one of the healthier ones I have. Why could be many things..it could be a weak seed, but it also can be how and whrn the moisture got through.

I've had taproots do that when I was using GA3...you didn't add anything when you soaked seed?
One little hint...those cotyledons are about used up. They may not even have enough ooomph to spread their leaflets. Maybe a very mild feeding might help it through. I'm talking no more then 200 ppm.

No, used rapid rooter plugs and it just showed up that way.Looks like you started in a paper towel and the root never gripped enough of the side of the cube hole on transplant so root couldnt push down and grew up and out instead

Sorry my bad, initially roots grow hairs which anchor it and then it grows down, if it dosent anchor it cant push down and all new growth is upwards.
One small fail i had with rapid rooters is the initial root some times meets a dead end and cant grow through leading to it pushing back up.

Looks like I had the same problem, I probably won’t go with the rapid rooters again.. I like the paper towel/zip lock straight to soil, but I feel like if I where to pick a starter pod I would pick the peat pods, even though I see a Lot of commercial growers using rock wool cubes..Sorry my bad, initially roots grow hairs which anchor it and then it grows down, if it dosent anchor it cant push down and all new growth is upwards.

Ive used them all and they are real cheap so a cool bagseed experiment for all. I prefer rockwool cubes too but they have a steep learning curve. I started in peat pellets or jiffys and have a lot of love for them too.
As i understand it once a seed has absorbed enough water no matter what you do they all grow and produce a root at the same speed. My goto method is 24 hour soak then plant direct to a small pot of soil.
I get the odd fail no matter what but can just cut the cube open or dig down the soil and see what screwed it

Not a commercial grower...but I like rockwool. It then gives me either option...coco or hydro. If I grew in soil, I'd do it differently.

IMO i would carefully split rooter to free the seedling and carefully transplant into a solo cup of light mix. You want all that root to start throwing lateral roots ( which it wont do now ) because it is exposed .
