Best option for heating a grow tent

Question is in the title. My grow tent is staying between 60-70f and I think it’s slowing down veg and making it harder for clones to root. I’ve got some regular light fixtures in my tent and could put in a ceramic element but I’m worried that might not be enough. So that made me think space heater inside the tent but I’m worried about that fucking up my VPD. Then I thought about maybe putting a radiator just outside the tent. Seems like the best and most expensive option. What have some of you all done to heat up your tents? It’s not a concern for my flower closet with the HPS, because that provides plenty of warmth.

well I try to keep lights off temp 72-78F and for lights on I goto 86.4F for the highest heat in the room I was running 600 watts of led a 4in fan pulling cool air from outside cooled it once i added the rest of the power which is another 600 watts+ i had to up to a 6 in fan pulling from the outside cool air works well just make sure your humidity dont spike at lights out

I've placed a 150w ceramic element (along with its 8" wide aluminum shade) inside of an 8" wide terra cotta pot (with a hole fashioned to let the cord come out the bottom) and then I topped that with another 8" terra cotta pot. I fastened the two together using HVAC silver tape and set the device to go on and off on a timer. It works like a charm and there's no real danger of it getting so hot that it'll melt / burn anything.

That seems like a pretty cool idea. I’ve just got a computer fan in there for ventilation and some LED lights. I’m trying to keep power consumption in the veg tent to a minimum since I’m running that 600 watt HPS. I think the first thing I’ll try is an infrared lamp because that’s a potentially cheap and quick fix, but I definitely want to build the little radiator thing you described.

I'm new too so forgive, but what is VPD and HPS? I dont grow my fiance does but I'm trying to learn as much as I can

VPD is vapor pressure deficit — basically a measure of how the temperature and humidity affects the plant’s ability to move water.

HPS is a high pressure sodium light.

I moved my thermometer to right at the plant level and it’s actually a pretty consistent 70. Still too low I know but now I’m thinking a little ceramic element for reptiles and a reflector pointed at the plants should really help. The tent isn’t that big

Ceramic during lights off.

The ceramic helps with dehumidification during lights off.....when I need it.

The oil filled does not dehumidify, provides nice consistent heat. Small osc fan blowing across fins.

The oil radiators definitely look like the best option. My tent is 3x3x6 so I need to find something small. The more I think about it the more I think a ceramic reptile heater in some sort of custom built base will be best. If I can make it radiate heat in every direction and put it in the center I think my plants will be a lot happier.

Here’s what I decided I’m gonna do. I have the tent sealed off except for the upper left port where the computer fan is and the lower right port where air flows into the tent. I ordered this ceramic heat bulb thing, and I’m gonna make a little sheet metal bracket for it so it sits inside the intake port. It should warm up the air as it comes into the tent and radiate heat directly off of it. Not a big expense at $8 considering I do commercial construction and already have the sheet metal sitting around. I suppose I could get even fancier with it and make some sort of heatsink with another computer fan. We’ll see how it works in its simplest form but I think this should be enough for my small tent. I don’t want these awesome greenpoint strains I’m starting to not reach their full potential because they’re not warm enough.

Maybe Pump the air from your flower room into the tent. Change your flowering light/s to come on during you coldest times. Or add some more Lights we all know they work well as heaters.

The flower room is a little far from the tent to run a duct. With the 600w HPS in an unexhausted, passive air cooled hood, my flower closet stays at about 90f with the light on and 65f in the coldest part of the night with the light off. Seems perfect for flowering, like the daily temp swing of a normal September in New Mexico.

I got the tent up to 73 by adjusting the lights. The 150w ceramic element over the air intake port should make a difference. If I could keep everything around 90 with the lights on and 70-80 when they’re off that seems like the sweet spot for veg. I want only the very best environment for these greenpoint strains I’m working on.

run 24/0 for veg. use your lights for heat.

Any advantages to 24/0 besides the extra heat? My whole life I’ve had it drilled into me to veg on 18/6.
