So up until about a year and a half ago, there was no way to legally grow in my state and the punishment if caught was typically 10-15 years, so due to paranoia, I have never kept mother plants myself. Now, with two medical patients in my household, we can grow a total of 24 plants. We’ve got two 2x4 tents and i just added another 4x4. I had to put the 4x4 in my bedroom, so I definitely dont have the room in the house for another tent. I do however have a very large garage, double wide and could probably fit three cars long, with an old-school wooden garage door, so we never use it for our vehicles. It is not directly air conditioned or heated, it is usually somewhere in between the temps outside and the temps inside in the garage. I’m wanting to build a little 6x3 room in there for keeping mother plants alive. Maybe 7 or 8 feet in height. I’m pretty sure that I could keep temps in line with a radiator and controller in the winter as well as running my humidifier on warm mist. In the summer, I think with good airflow and running my humidifier on cool mist, I should be able to keep temps in low 80s and if not, I could hook up an air conditioner to keep it cool, although I would like to avoid that if the temps allow me to.
What I don’t know, is the best kind of lighting to use to keep my mother’s alive without growing too much, or the materials I would need to build the actual room itself. Also, ideas for a soil that will be able to keep my mother alive without making it too hard to manage growth. In my tents, I grow in 70/30 coco perlite, drain to waste, hand feeding to 20 percent runoff. I like coco perlite blend because it’s easier for me to correct any nutritional deficiencies or toxicities (in my opinion) and I actually enjoy the hand feeding, Its my favorite part of the day most days. However, I don’t want to do this with mother plants, I would like to use a soil that allows me to feed water only, and I don’t mind mixing it myself if there isn’t a premixed soil that would work better. I do have little experience with building soils though, so this is another area I could do with some input on.
thanks in advance for any answers or feedback I may get, I’m looking to start building this in the next couple weeks so I can fill it with clones from the plants I’m running now.
