I just read a poll where 57% of the population in the US support the Death penalty, despite the fact that it has been proven that numerous people have been found innocent after they were executed.

Then we have the numerous and seemly endless wars that the USA has involved itself in since it's inception to expand Democracy & Capitalism too enlighten the World (fucking joke) and we then have the balls too espouse our moral righteousness and criticize others

We really are a nation of barbarians, at least matching or surpassing the nations we criticize, like China, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Pakistan and North Korea for example,

Fuck no, we just simply just love killing people it seems, and that's a sad fucking fact.
You know what, ever since I was born in 1956, for over 62 fucking years (not counting Korea & WW2) I have existed waking up to the latest casualty count of American soldiers, from Vietnam to Afghanistan
Oh well, that's life I guess if you have lived in America for the last 243 years, endless war and death and destruction, and that's tragic.

It’s fair to say that the number of innocent people who have been put to death will never be fully known. But a 2014 study did look a little closer at this issue and found something very interesting.

They looked at everyone who had been sentenced to death in the US since 1973 and the date of the study and discounted everyone who had been exonerated. The end result, is good estimation of the percentage of executed inmates who were innocent.

That figure was 4.1% that really doesn’t sound like much (unless your innocent & die), but at the last count there were over 2800 inmates sentenced to death in the US today which means that 115 of those could be innocent.

Oh well, tough shit, right?

I used to be in favor of the death penalty.
I've changed my stance these last few years.
For the above reason. Even .0001% of erroneous executions is too much.

I am suspicious of ANY government that kills their own citizens.

And besides that; I believe that if punishment is what it's all about, revenge ... a lifetime spent in a 64 square foot cage with fellow animals is a much worse punishment than the peaceful slumber of death.

I would much rather die than live like that.

Well, it's arguably both.
Ever been the victim of a violent crime?

And: No, not for a long time now. And the doc says as long as I stay on my meds I am probably safe to be out in public. Well, for short periods of time. Oh, and, with a handler. But otherwise, I am good.
