Hello Nature’s Gurus,

I’m setting up a grow box for a 1x2x4 feet (30x60x120), I’m upgrading after 8 month to a bigger box.
I don’t want to repurchase my equipment after changing the size.
Can I set a 600w hps air cooled reflector for 1x2x4 (maybe dimmable).

I'm sure it's possible but man it's gonna get hot in there.

That will be your main focus, keeping heat under control , the other being keeping your plants growing low.

1x2x4 feet or 30x60x120 inches? 30 inches = 2.5 feet 60 inches = 5 feet and 120 inches = 10 feet

If the 1x2x4 then its WAY too much wattage.

If it's the 2.5 x 5 feet then its enough light for a little over half that space.

You want 50 - 60 watts per sqft with HPS.

I know it’s too much that’s y I mentioned Dimmable :).
so if 600w Dimmable, will it work. I don’t want to buy 250 now then buy 600 later again
I’ll be using air cooled reflector electronic ballast.
30x60x120 that’s in cm
Metric folks here :)

If it dims to 250 watts then I suggest a 250 watt bulb using that setting. Whats the lowest it will go?
Oh if I dim it I can use a less wattage bulb?
I thought u only dim the bulb itself.
Based on the product info it can be dimmed 25% 50% and 75% if I’m not mistaken

You could always get a 250 and use it later in a veg space with the 600 in flower. Just throwing that out there.

Still a lot of light 250w of hps in 2 square foot and with limited height your gona struggle, its twice what you need and too close.
Pick your ballast wisely, some go 600-400-250 others go 600 -75%-50%-110% You want the one that gives 250w not one that dims by %
Buy a 250w bulb.

Well noted guys thanks a lot.
What I got from u guyz is either go with 250w hps or go led. If led “can’t afford ready made” do you have any suggestions of a DIY. I can get the parts from aliexpress since shipping will be cheaper if from amazon they will take 10$/pound +5% of the product cost for shipping from where I live

From the info and questions it says u can dim to 400w 250w. Not possible to use 250w bulb on 600w ballast.

With a 1x2 space you only need 60w of LED (boards or strips)

Cant see where it says that, though it says can use a 600 bulb on any setting.
I have just read a couple of the reviews though, I linked it so you could see what I meant by the wattage, not as a recommendation to that specific brand. Though I wouldn't be surprised if the poor reviews were user error. That will happen when you don't plug a male into a female properly.

Any build suggestion, it’s hard to google that stuff it’s like 98% ads. Very clever ads. Hard to differentiate from genuine articles :)
Try kingbrite 288QB 301b Samsung single board with a meanwell hlg60-48a driver, you probably wont even need a heatsink at that power.

The single board kit would normally come with a 120w driver and a heatsink, but you really don't want that much power, though you can dim it so if your upgrading down the road maybe get one of them.

I don't do AliExpress but heres a link for ali so you can see it and know what to look for.

Thanks Corey. Much appreciated. Final thoughts, HID 250w or led cob build?

The internet is broken these days with the vast amount of ads in it. Can’t differentiate ads from reality, hell even surgeries are ad oriented

I’ll check it out, is led really better or at least on par with hps?
I swapped all my hps out out a few years ago for first cobs, then added boards later, I think they kick ass but I wont slag off HPS though. Enough of that goes on.

For you its an easy choice, the single board will suit you well, but do heed my advice you don't want too much light , they are very powerful. 30-35w per square foot is plenty.

60w of good led that suits your space or 250w of hps that is too much, too close. Easy choice mate!

edit. 3500k or 4000k will suit both veg and flower.
