Sooo like the title says, I need help figuring out which two babies to keep. I germ’d using the ol paper towel method, and I was honestly expecting a success rate of 50% but lo and behold they all sprouted and are all healthy. Here’s my problem though, when I started these babies I had an entire room to work with and now the ol lady has forced me to use a space that’s about 3ft wife and 5ft tall and the strains are “SUPPOSEDLY” green crack feminized and strawberry cough feminized. I say supposedly because I got them from a grower buddy in Colorado and didn’t actually purchase them myself from a source. I’m a little skeptical because the strawberry cough looks much more indica yet the green crack looks sativa as expected.

anyways, right now they’re under 200w of CFL and once they’re a bit bigger they will go under the mars hydro TSL2000w led. For the rest of veg and their flowering. Here’s a few pics of the babies.

1 and 2 are the green crack and 3 and 4 are the “strawberry cough.” As of right now I’m leaning towards keeping what appear to be the indica dominant “strawberry cough” and gifting the sativa dominants to a friend mainly because of height restrictions. I would love a second opinion on this though so I don’t feel as guilty. Thanks!

For some reason my attachments didn’t post so again,

1&2 are the “green crack” 4AED6D2B-A643-4091-96B1-ED3C5F26071C.jpeg084303DC-A404-4A9C-AABD-8A1CB47FD6F3.jpeg
And 3&4 are the “strawberry cough”C2229E1D-E891-4C3D-B2DF-6CFC12247A24.jpeg13D4B594-15F3-4232-9DA6-B17883970010.jpeg

You should keep them all at this stage and if its not the light being too close maybe you got a fan pointed right at them as not started that healthy.

You will get 4 plants in 3ft pretty easily :-)
Yeah I believe I’m going to keep them maybe another week or two and see which ones are the healthiest. And what do you mean about the fan or light being too close? Does something look off with these guys? :(

I think both of the strains you have are sativa dominant and can stretch quite a bit. IMO, you can't tell that one or the other is more indica or sativa by their seedling leaves. I just grew Blackjack, a sativa dominant hybrid, and it had fat indica type leaves when young but long thin sativa type leaves by mid-veg. I's say pick two plants and figure out a training plan to control the height. Topping, LST, scrog and super cropping are a few methods to control height.

My first thought was similar to king as they dont look that healthy. If i had to pick id go with 1 and 3. Looks to me the woody looking dirt is not the best choice for seedlings. What brand is it?

My plan is to either mainline into a scrog or lst into a scrog as well. But yeah you’re right about that. I had 2 jack herer for my outdoor grow last year that started out super bushy and fat until about halfway through the season and then pretty much completly flip flopped to a more sativa looking plant basically over night

It could be that this is there 3 day with no water and when I took these they were awfully thirsty. The soil is an organic mix from a local nursery. I used it for my outdoor grows and had a bit left so I figured I’d try my hand at indoor growing again. Last indoor grow was in 2013

Id bet if they were in a good soil like a mix of HP promix and FFOF they would be way happier. Id look into buying better soil for when you upgrade into next pot size. Also avoid any soil with any bark like your has in it for indoor use.

I am definitely still a noob

is there any particular brand of fox farms? I had read that some are too hot for seedlings but I will definitely look into better soil for my babies. They will probably be transplanted soon as I’m starting to see some small roots poking out of the drain holes. I am definitely still a noob (only 2 outdoor grows and 1 indoor grow about 5 years ago) so I appreciate the advice! Do you think the Mars hydro 2000w will be enough for all four though? I believe it only uses 225? Actual watts. LED is still very confusing to me

I recommend to most HP Pro Mix mixed with Fox Farm Ocean Forest, with a ratio of 50:50. You can mix alittle lighter for seedlings and alittle heavier for pre bloom pots. When i say lighter or heavier i mean more or less FFOF.

Im not familiar with the Mars Hydro 2000w but i did a quick look on Amazon. At least its white diodes and not a blurple. Are you sure its only 225w? Amazon says 300w. Figure 30w per sqft or round about, if you got that in your area should be good to go.

Ten four on the soil! I’ll be placing an order on amazon as soon as the check hits this afternoon. Also, is the blurple bad? I’ve seen a ton of people using it. In my defense, last time I was on here LED did not seem to be as popular as it is now

Blurple was/is a fad and now there so cheap on Amazon that people not up to date on the newer white diode technology dont know any better and keep buying blurples. Blurples universally falsely advertise the wattage and in order to get close to a HID light they need to be similar watts which defeats the purpose of going LED.

Is there a recommended FAQ for LED on this site? One that wasn’t posted in 2012 and would have up to date information about the technology

A little on leaf morphology - sativa be thinner and indica fatter but any heat/moisture stress will make thinner/fatter leaves leaving it hard to identify sat from indica - i hope you understand this, plants change for the environmemt as well as strain.

They dont look terrible but they are mucho unhappy (growing is easy but perfection really hard). I see purple on growth tip and top leaves a little and have stunted size and droopy flacid leaves - long term you will get better but short term you can try and observe and take some time to vary things.

If the soil went really dry then this is what would happen so maybe its just that - again even harder for me to say for sure but good food for thought :-)

Transplanted the ladies to one gallons with a 1:1 mix of ffof and pro mix. They didn’t get any worse Before I transplanted but they weren’t better, and then adding the stress of a transplant they looked even more sad for a few days. Found out my thermometer was reading about 9degrees cooler for some reason so instead of 76 with lights off and 82 with them on it was somehow 85 with lights off and 91 with them off so I cranked up the outtake/intake fans and pulled the lights up about an inch or two and now the new thermometer is ready 79-81 lights on and 74-76 lights off with a pretty steady humidity Of about 35-40 and as of right now the ladies have perked up and look like they’re starting to take off growth wise. Still some discoloration on the leaves but I believe that once were fully recovered from the heat stress and the transplants I will start some LST/topping/mainlining and then start on a 1/8 dose of some fox farm nutes. I will update this maybe once more than I’m going to start a journal so we can watch this train wreck of a grow thanks for the input gentlemanly

Rollitup has the BEST LED section on web! Its a subforum so many dont catch it at first.
I have trouble navigating through the sub forum for some reason. All I can find is posts from like 2013 or posts speaking in jargon that I don’t understand as I haven’t read up as much as I should have

Your probably seeing the dates when some of the LED threads were started. It does take awhile to understand the new tech with all the diode, drivers, strips, cobs, ect....I always ask @Randomblame or somebody like him when I don't understand LED lingo.

From what you wrote sounds like you have thermometer in the light - this is wrong you beed to shade or not use one and control room temps not tent.

For you new bees - Heat is radiation conduction and convection and you need to learn this before all else :-)
