Pro-mix questions

So I just made the switch to pro-mix and nearing the end of the cycle for 3 gardens. I use GH 3 part at 900ppm and 5.5 pH and I would say the grows have been going well, no real complaints but I am curious what other growers in pro-mix like their ranges.

Also I started very conservatively about feed feed water repeat but soon decided to do a lot more feeding because my run-off was within range and I made sure to have plenty of it, at least 30% run-off.

Also curious about how often people water or feed. I was fearful of watering too much and averaged about every 5 days under 1000 watts in tents, but twice I let one tent go a day too long and they started wilting. Is overwatering a real problem with pro-mix or do you think that I can up my schedule? Thanks in advance.

I personally think thats to long in-between feeds. Every third day max.
Probably to low. Im at 6.1 -6.3.
This is just how i run my garden. If everything is awesome for you in what you are doing thats great!

Thanks for the replies guys, helps a bunch. Wow the pH is much higher than I would have imagined. My run-off was running about 6 but I will bring it up a bit and water/feed more.

I will tell you though, I freaking love this stuff. I don't think I will ever go back to DWC. My first run I did a pound from 4 plants 2.5 weeks veg and 7 weeks flower with no training because I wanted to see how they grew differently if at all. Room for improvement.

I also think I am reaching to upper limits of what I can ask a plant to produce with only 2.5 weeks of veg so thinking of throwing in 6 next cycle instead of the 4 I've always done. My state is legal and with medical, so we get 3 flowering plants per adult and 6 for the medical card. So I am thinking 6 per closet, 2 in flowering and one in veg and I will be within my limits.

just a follow up, 2nd tent same setup different strain is done, a pound and a half. 3rd tent should be done in a week and will be closer to a pound I think. More feeding, higher pH, I can't wait to see what happens next.

With pro-mix you can water when they start to dry a bit, or water like coco every day or multiple times per day if you want. I've done that many times when I had promix and coco in the same tent. I keep ph going in around 6.0 - 6.2 and they get fed same time/strength/ph as the coco, and make sure to get good runoff.

I've only used pro-mix HP so I can't give advice on other types. Don't need extra perlite in that one, but you can if you want. Mix in a bit of EWC before planting and they'll do even better. Pro-mix nutes work well too, but I found that I had to create my own blend out their water soluble kinds to get best results, and they have little to no magnesium so that needs to be added. Their granular works ok too. I pretty much just use Jack's now with a bit of fish emulsion

Not very good advice at all to water/feed promix every day. Thats asking for root rot and over watered plants. Now of course if you have a 4ft plant in a solo cup then sure water away.

but from my experience anywhere from 2-5 days depending on how much the plant is drinking and how long its been in the current pot etc.

Tell that to my plants lol. They take twice daily feeding to runoff in promix HP. I feed them the exact same as the coco when they are in the tent together. The part about plant/pot size may play a part though. I only use 1 gallon pots. Feeding to runoff daily or twice daily more or less prevents root rot, and if you want just add a little H2O2 to your feed/water. When done this way they don't perform quite as well as the coco, but better than the promix only watered when getting dry (which is the usual advice). I actually have a few on the go right now in promix HP. Fed/watered same time and strength as the ones in coco in the same tent and they are looking good and healthy. I'll try to get a pic up. I've never had a problem doing this so long as there's good amount of runoff.

The 1 gallon pots is why you can get away with it. I use 5 gallon pots in main area and I'd say average is every 3-4 days once there full on blooming. I do use 1 gallons in one of my tester areas when I'm doing 10 or more in there and they suck the water down and I always end up hating having to water them everyday. Other tester area has 2 gallon pots in now and I get 3 days out of them also.

ok, if watering fully to runoff every day what would container size really matter besides that it would take a lot more water/nutes to get proper amount of runoff. you can treat promix hp like coco and get good results. that's all there is to it

8 month old thread. Well I can say that after a 6 or so cycles I’m hitting just under 2 pounds with around 3 weeks veg and 60 or so flower. 5 gallon pots about every 3 days with pH 6.5 as my target. Have started adding some cal mag because my tap water is 43 ppm and I thought it was a little low. Drain to waste is just stupid easy

I don’t think it would matter but obviously with larger pots you can water less and if there is no weight/quality benefit in feeding daily why would you?

I did get higher yeild with daily watering vs every 2-3 days in promix HP and keeping PH close to 6 and not higher than 6.5. Run side by side with coco and same nutes the coco yeilded more so I just switched to all coco

i agree that pro-mix HP is pretty fool proof. i've also done quite a few cycles and there are times when i water every day and times where i have to go 3-4 days without water and the plants don't seem to mind.

ideally i give my 3gal pots 1.5gal of water every other day.

I don’t have a schedule, just go by how they look. I can imagine no reason to water if the soil is still wet. I do use the finger test, stick in the medium to tell

promix is not really soil. the reason is the same as you do it in coco, and works almost as well. i never had problems doing it that way

I know it’s not soil. But the reason people water so much in coco is because it dries out quick. So in that aspect it’s extremely different and the very reason I don’t do coco. I know guys who water twice a day in coco. Their yield is no better than mine so no thanks
