Slim 600H from Optic LED, claiming 3.03 umols/j

So I've been looking at the various "vertical" style fixtures as I want something that illuminates a tent evenly and of course there is the usual suspects of Gavita, Fluence and the Growers choice ROI-E680.
The growers choice would have otherwise what I settled with as it does mostly what all the others do, it's cheaper and already has a dimmer

But Optic LED apparently released a vertical style of fixture less than 3 weeks ago, the Slim 600H and I guess what caught my eye was the claim of 3 umol/j which from my understanding is quite up there and seems like a ludicrous claim considering the highest I've ever seen quoted on any fixture is 2.7 umol/j. It also has a proper dimmer built in.

Anyone have some real thoughts on this? I wouldn't otherwise be posting if it wasn't for that efficacy figure. It currently goes for $1161 using a discount on Optic LED Grow Light's website

If you want a bar light, contact @HortiBloom and get their MegaPlus fixture. ;)
Optics600H is $1,249. HortiBloom is only 499...
I'd buy it or a pair of SpiderFarmer SF2000's from their website or Amazon if I was looking to buy a new light for a 4X4.

I call BS on these claims without sphere test.

Pretty sure its the usual "my chinese fabrication people says its 3.0 so ill repeat it"

Btw spiderfarmer also fudges the numbers acording to hlgs sphere.

Any of those alternatives on top looks good but who knows about efficiencies anymore. Ill trust hlg and ill trust sphere reports. Anyway, the main efficiency in these kind of fixtures is built into the form factor, if you can drop the fixture to a couple of inches height you lose very little light, so little that the numbers people obsess about becomes irrelevant

I don't really care if they fudge the numbers a bit..they're at least using legitimate LM301B and added Red for a really good price.

It's not like they put out a number with nothing to back it
They apparently achieved 3.0, not in a sphere test but instead using a quantum sensor as the fixture sits in a tent, taking multiple PPFD measurements (in this case 64), averaging them, multiplying the result by the square meters of the test area and then dividing by the wattage
If you have ever seen the MIGRO youtube channel this is the exact type of test he does and usually the result is slightly worse than in a full integrating sphere

Flat pane is one of a series of tests which should include sphere,gonio as well

Edit.... I agree with rocket, They're not hitting that # system level imo

I agree on the sphere test. And maybe partially retract.


Ultimately the kind of test migro does (similar to cobkits did way back on cobs) are comparative and not absolute as a sphere. Also when you do 64 measurements you get 64 chances to introduce measuring errors. Everytime ive done ppfd with a par meter it bounces around values a fair bit.

But hey its still better than claiming something just cause.

But having seen how hard it is to get to 3 with real equipment and top diodes its hard to swallow. Teknik got 3 on cutters red spec boards but that was on 20w on a qb type board, so running diodes at about .66w each and with best cree diodes available. And thats without driver losses. So its hard to believe that its not a high outlier value.

Edit: also real shitty day might make me guilty of snark. All work and no play... And no weed on top of that.

Everyone gets a pass on a shitty day......I use mine all up the first week of the year though.

If you want advice on alibubbers theres a chinese knock off board thread kicking around. General advice: Meijiu, Kingbrite and possibly Bava seems to be favourites of the china buyers. Get only boards if you can, run them soft with some alusheet backing, using drivers which are under warranty in your country. Dont expect too much warranty but they might surprise you, ive seen people getting some money back. One of the best examples of china board use is @WeedSexWeightsShakes grow which he updates on youtube.

Having had a better look at things they might be hitting high numbers but i doubt 3 in a sphere/gonio unless were talking board levels and without driver losses and no protective plastic eating a few %. Youd have to hit around 3.3 at board to get 3 at system level with that kinda build. If top end nichias and crees, which would be more or less equivalent to whats seems to be on the optic, only does 3 board level at 20w per qb/288 diodes it seems hard to believe. Guesstimate 3.3 board level around 10w per qb: there doesnt seem to be 60qbs worth of diodes in there, especially not in monos, cause each of those cutter boards does around 16 diodes and the optic has 76. It would basicly be up to those 76 diodes to boost the numbers fron sub 3 to 3.3.

But it still looks like a decent fixture for the price. Lets see what a lab says. The most close comparison fixture is amare 8 bar id say...


theres around 60 qbs worth of diodes in there. Theres basicly

You can buy their heat sinks in confidence I'd have to think. Boards and sinks. Buy drivers in your country though for warranty.

Yeah but its overkill for where i like to run them, 60-80w, and they are the most cost driving part of shipping. Alusheet can also double as frame and at low wattage its more than enough, but i guess it depends on alu suppliers local to you.

haven't updated my current grow in awhile. I think i am about 3 weeks in now. I’ll try and get a video up soon
