People tend to believe what they want to when it comes to Trump, most Trumpers simply don't care that he's a Russian asset. If they are still republicans and Trumpers after all the evidence that has come out, not to mention Trump's words and deeds, something else is driving the agenda. People have feelings first and subconscious thinking processes turn those basic feelings of desire and aversion (approach & avoidance) into more complex thoughts/emotions. People are not rational and do not make up their minds on evidence or facts, first they have feelings and emotions with the thinking part providing mere rationalizations. Having others who share our beliefs provides validation and emotional/social support for things that are emotionally driven, with that support you can have not just an information bubble, but tribalism. Mainstream professional news and journalism become "fake news or the liberal media", the words of Trump (chief of th the tribe) and hannity become the truth.

Notice how they like to call themselves "conservatives", when in fact they are politically radical, there are no republican conservatives, the actual conservatives left the party long ago. The republicans are are now a racist organization and racism and bigotry are the only thing that unite them, they are not right wing in any economic policy sense. They like to call patriotic American "liberals" or "leftist", when in fact there are many concerned conservatives who oppose Trump and Trumpism. Donald has separated the sheep from the goats here and the only driving force in the GOP is racism and bigotry, they are now anti immigration because most immigrants are brown folks or are Muslims. Most of the Trumpers are not stupid people (though it helps) the root of what drives them is hate and fear converted into tribalism by the media bubbles they inhabit. When actual real news and facts penetrate the bubble they are either filtered out and ignored or rationalized away for them by people like hannity on FOX news. The news part of Fox distorts and spins the facts, but by far the most popular part of FOX are the Hannity types who provide excuses and rationalizations.

I'm sorry about your family situation, this civil war will tear families apart just like the last one did, this time the other side has Russian help and is lead by a traitor, is supported by a GOP congress that has betrayed their oaths of office and their basic obligations as citizens. Witness the recent statements by Mitch McConnell on FOX news betraying his impeachment trial oath. The constitution, law and their oaths mean nothing to them, it's not civil society, its civil war. Not just Trump is wiping his ass with the US constitution, McConnell is too.

I just avoid it under most circumstances.
I have a sister who just loves Clinton (all of em). We kid each other back and forth about 'her guy', and 'my idiot'. LoL.
We came up with names if they were to have children ...

When asked my political views, especially if it is someone that I don't know, I just plead ignorance ... "I don't pay any attention to that ... but how about those 49ers?" If pressed I say something like "I dunno who I'll vote for. Whose running? Who do you like?" Once I ask someone that last question I just keep em busy with telling me why, and act like I care.

If it's a relative, and I don't wanna talk about it I just usually say "I don't wanna talk about it." My relatives are used to my salty attitude. It doesn't do any good to argue.
