Trimming is important !!!

This was my first grow and My bud had a hay/grass smell can’t really describe it I just knew it wasn’t supposed to smell like nor taste like that .I even did the slow drying process and paper bag curing/ mason jars I still got the hay taste so I decided to do some better trimming on my bud and I’ll be damn the hay smell and taste is gone I’m assuming that was the fan leaves or something giving off that taste .
I just learned and I hope this help others know that Trimming is very important to get the taste you want and smell you love

Nope. Youre confused. Trim gets danker and danker the more you let it soak up the evaporating vocs. That alone is reason to never trim personal stash, the trim is actually worth something in the end.

The hay smell is rotting plant matter, exclusively.

No the fan leaves will give a bad smell and taste it’s best to remove as much as possible poor trimming will result in poor tasting bud especially if your leaves still is green the more leaves your remove the more bud you are smoking that’s facts The only thing leaves good for is butter etc because of thc not the taste it’s terrible I even tested out plain leaves its terrible and removing as much as possible off my bud was the best thing I have ever done earthy skunk aroma no grass nor hay smell hope this help other.
And by the way nor rot etc already been tested

This is going to be a generally difficult discussion simply on the basis that what the OP is considering as trim may not even make it past the actual harvest stage for some of us. The large, non-sugar coated leaves can absolutely produce a less than desirable smell...with that being said, these leaves (for future reference) shouldn't be present for the curing process. I sometimes leave them on mine while drying to slow the process and allow for more moisture to be present, but thats it. While trim generally will get better in potency and flavor as a proper cure continues, this is only true to the extent of:
1. How quickly it was dried in the first place.
2. How many trichomes the leaf contains.
That's why leaving larger, non sugar coated leaves may very well result in undesirable smelling smoke. While bad flavor and smell is not exclusively caused by decomposing vegetation, it can certainly be a contributing factor.

I dry with fans on and they come off when everything is bucked and trimmed up to seal. Love a sugar leaf, not sure why people trim those off for.

If it weren't for that I make bubble hash, I would trim far less...personally, if a leaf is covered in trich's, I'd rather leave them be. But if there is a sugar leaf-sized leaf and it isn't covered in trichomes, as in just bare green leaf, it's got to go! But it can be easy to go all 'perfectionist' on your buds while trimming and before you know it, you've stripped the poor bud down to it's bare calyxes! So I'd advise anyone new to trimming that, if they're worried they're overdoing it on trimming, to put the buds down and take a small breather! Remember, you can always trim a little more later on, but ya can't untrim it later on.
