that warmth could be a benefit for a large part of the year I'd say - but you'd know based on your situation - might be a non-factor
This was the game changing factor for me.
I'm in the UP of MI, (often mistaken for Canadian eh!)...the LED had it's limitations during the frigid winter months.... worked fine, buuuuutttt....when I started "mixing" the two techs, things started getting nutty.
The ladies started doing things I hadn't seen before. Hidden potential I didn't know existed. Eye popping frost.

I have come to revere, the capability of 315 CMH.
The only time, that I can recall ever seeing an even remotely negative comment made, was in a conversation where a first time 315 user was under a false impression, that it would replace a 600HPS.

Pound for pound(pun intended) it's my absolute favorite. CMH, kicks serious major league, ganja growing ass.
And I got racks, upon racks, of high end DIY LED builds... which also kick ass.
I almost said the same thing; It's hard to remember a single negative comment about cmh, other than back when expectations weren't really known (overblown) and cost was higher (cost was the complaint).

If she'd finally fkn let me build a much ,much, much bigger room I could!!
My basement stays at about 50F all year round (I'm literally right on a lake, at the bottom of a mountain range), so I have a veg and flower tent down there, a couple of cabinets for male pollination and seed making, and a cloning/seedling tent in a spare bedroom on the main floor.

My basement is quite large with several open room areas, so I'm still contemplating putting in a 12 site RDWC system with a bunch of 1000W HID.

*sigh*. Why'd you have to go and say that?

Yeah, if you're wanting to stay under 400w from the wall, CMH is definitely the way to go.

If it wasn't for that, 600W HPS would destroy that tent.(in a good way)

But, I do personally tend to move more towards the 75w per sq. ft. as opposed to the normal 50w if ya can't tell

Ya the power would be nice and acceptable but I don’t want to run an exhaust 24/7 on it preferably

It’s down to the Timber 4VS ($750), the new HLG 550 V2 ECO ($850), and a couple CMH options ($275-$580). By the way a new bulb for a CMH is over $100? Any additional thoughts? It could go down to the HLG and Timber if no one can back up $100 bulbs and less efficiency.

If you're willing to spend $800 plz diy, you can get so much out of it
My first lights were DIY Cobs and they turned out fine, but honestly I just want a clean, warranty backed system :) I can wire, but she isn’t pretty haha!

But damn if everyone I talk to doesn’t shut up about their 315 CMH LOL

I don’t have board experience, would you say the penetration is less than Cobs? And what kind of penetration am I looking at with a CMH?

I agree with @f series. But if you want/need warranty, or don't wanna diy for this one.. I'm not sure. DIY drops the led prices down (at least with HLG).
I think the HLG 550 Eco is only in v2 version, right?
I'm still thinking of heat increasing methods, and considering cmh for that - because bonus spectrum, but duno if it'd provide enough. Also, they'd probably have to *remove* leds to run the cmh (due to electricity)...seems a little silly. Not as silly as running a space heater though, right? Lol.
