I had heard that cmh put out a fair bit of heat and thats why i used cfl as supplemental lighting to my blackdog phytomax 2 600 watt in a 4x4(thats getting a fair bit larger) and was very interested in cmh and was turned away from them. I'n fairly new to cultivating it so I say this from a blank slate standpoint, not trying to disagree just so were clear. lol. Agronut- you use cmh as your primary not supplemental?

One CMH, a 315, won't add a lot of heat.......about 6-8 degrees hotter fahrenheit in a 4 x 4, if your room temp is about 60-65 degrees. If the room where the tent is, is above 65 it might add 8-10 degrees of heat. My first run was CMH in a 4 x 4

yes i use a 630w CMH in a 5x5 as primary horizontsl light source, and during flower I supplement with a vertical 400w HPS hanging between plants in addition to the CMH, and my 8 inch inline fan keeps lights-on temp around 78 degrees consistently. Ive run a 315w CMH by itself during veg without venting and kept temps around 77-78 as well.1 CMH bulb puts off very little heat overall.

dope. good to know. any brand recommendations? also do they make a double ended 630 cmh(all 630s might be made with two bulbs, i just dont know) that you can run one bulb as a 315 in a pinch or run them both? I might be dreaming big here but thought id ask

i ordered my 630watt CMH fixture from Vivosun, good not great, but you can definitely run it with just one bulb and it works perfectly. I run dual spectrum throughout with one 4100K bulb and one thats 3800K....however you can get much better coverage by getting two separate 315w CMH fixtures for your tent and hanging them about 12 inches apart. I’d just buy one 315w fixture and figure out how to hang it in the middle with your LEDs on either side of it, maybe angle them a bit more/deeper into your canopy.

If I was on a budget I’d probably look at CMH for a square tent or else a square Mars fixture to stay in your price range.

And ya I think the TSL2000 from Mars would be solid in a 2x4 and if you can afford the bump up you definitely won’t be disappointed with the Timber fixture.

vivosun 315 cmh on Amazon.

Priced well and grows dank within 2.5x2.5.....they are one of the smaller 315 fixtures, so they def wont cover a full 3x3 optimally for flowering, but man they kick complete ass within 2.5x2.5 flowering footprint.


@TintEastwood is rocking the bigger and better 315s, they have better coverage, but i would assume are more costly as well?

OP: I was one of the very first to implement LEDs and have followed LED development ever since. Mars has a terrible name of making crap products and zero customer support. Maybe they've gotten better, but since their customer support is long proven to be non-existent, and the fact that their are much better options, I would look elsewhere

Agronut makes a good point as it relates to spectrum, though he was referring to cost/value: In nature we never see red or blue sun, we see shades of white, which combines some reds and blues. In the spring the sun provides more cool white light and by harvest the light is warmer in spectrum (more reds), so, blurples need not apply. Neither should lights that are predominantly blurple.

I use Amare Technology LEDs which are likely out of your budget, but recently I came across a light sold on Amazon that is designed correctly, priced right, and should be a quality light for a long time

dope man. I appreciate your input. im going over to growco today to talk to my people there and see what they have in stock. Buy local, support your growing communitys life force(your local grow shop. lol) I say it just as much for myself, lol, its easy to get everything dirt cheap online and have exactly what you want delivered directly to your door. Sorry had to use my pulpit to give a shout out lol
