Is Distilled Water Bad to Use for Watering Your Plants?

A small amount of compost will neutralize the Chlorine / chloramine. A couple tablespoons in a 5 gallon pail will be ready in minutes after stirring it up. Have a sniff and see.

That's really interesting and all but first off, do you know how long exactly, this would take?
You're asking about a pinch of sugar? I'd say 4 hours.

It's a tiny amount of disinfectant. It's not enough to sanitize water (like a swimming pool) exposed to butt cracks, bugs falling into it, etc. Just pour it into your soil and the first 1" of soil will have more material to exhaust that level of disinfectant than a swimming pool does. Just feed with a touch of sugar and humic/fulvic acids to reinvigorate that slight disinfection.

Everyone who grows weed has a microscope to examine trichomes. If it goes to 100x you should be able to look at your water after adding a pinch of sugar?

IMO, this is in the realm of sweating the small stuff. I can understand taking steps to neutralize chlorine in an aquarium. The fish aren't rapidly multiplying colonies. You can't drop a pinch of sugar in the water and have fish explode in numbers (to make up for the 10% who perished as a tiny amount of chlorine exhausted itself on them).

I can understand organic purists going to great lengths like this. If you spend months "cooking" soils, cultivating microbial and fungal colonies, I can understand how difficult it could be to think about adding something harmful. But, technically, this amount of harm isn't much. It's designed to purify a mostly pure (closed) water delivery system. By definition it won't have much effect on a very dirty medium (which is what our soil is).

why are you worried about PPM's?
My tap is 700ppm which doesn't leave a lot of ppms for nutrients. When I've tried that it didn't produce well. I got deficiencies, stunted growth, etc.

Starting around 160-220 does well. I don't get ca nor mg defs. Maybe 300 or 400 would too. never tried it. But, I can say with absolute certainty that 700 doesn't doesn't do well.

I'm pretty sure aluminum is straight up toxic in every way. Usually it isn't taken up at the pH soil is at though.

Another method I use ( cheap ) are Aquarium Water testing strips .
These will help " range " the nitrate ppm and hardness plus PH.

These help me double check ppm/ph from pens. Most pens will drift in their calibration from time to time and will help you know if water mix is near where you want it.

Although I do soil only grows , mileage will vary on DWC / hydro.
For soil it helps keep mixture in safe zones for proper plant uptake.
Walmart 9 bucks.

You dug up a dead and buried, almost 5 year old post for this answer?

LEAVE THE DEAD BURIED!
What? I didnt dig up anything lmao you know what search engines are, right? If not, theres this thing called "google" and you can type in a thing called a "search bar" and it searches the internet for content matching what you type in that box. Amazing, right? Welcome to 2020! And what makes you think I was looking for this guy putting boogers in distilled water? Makes me wonder what you search on the internet though

I was just told distilled water is terrible for growing. I feel misled! I know everyone has their own way. I just wish people didn’t say “THIS is how it works, any other way and you’re a moron.” :roll:when in reality there’s a billion different ways to do everything.:wall:
