yeah i've heard that 600w hps is the most efficient of all systems.... but like dagambler said its going to cost alot more to start up 6 systems rather than just 3.. i'd have to do the math to see how long it'd take to make up the start up cost of 6 systems...

i believe i'll go with 3 1000w hps systems. that much less ducting.. less bulbs that can burn out...

i used the papertowel method... sittin in tupperware and on a seedling heating mat. i think i've got 4 of 9 with tails...

they will go in the dirt tonight i hope.

there are other factors to take into consideration then just the power payback cause you are likely to yield higher with 5 x 600 then you are with 3 x 1000

lol ok.... u set up my 80 plant hydro setup... i'll monitor it.

don't have the money for hydro. i'm sure when i move outta this shop i will start to dig into hydro.

hydro more or less maintenance?

I agree. Don't think I would want to lug bags of soil up that ladder too many times either. With hydro all you would need is a hose.

The thing that really turned me away from soil was the beautiful, deep flower beds surrounding my dirt-farming friends place, all filled with perlite, peat and such. I don't have that kind of space or time.

yeah we'll see. thanks for the input guys as i'm always willing to learn and know i need to learn more.

I will move to hydro sometime in the future. just going to stick with what i know and what i've gotten to work. soon as i get frustrated i will graduate to hydro.

planting tomorrow.

man you are so right its got to count so go with what you know
soil is cheaper too. i was kinda got forced by a partner to do hydro i failed
and i have been growing in soil for almost 20 years

Well, I totally agree with doing what you know. But Weezer, I can't see how dirt is cheaper than hydro, not a simple DWC setup like mine anyway. Wouldn't it be like continually buying soil vs turning on a tap? I may be wrong, and I'm sure this argument has been had in many other threads, AND I certainly don't want to hijack this thread, I'm enjoying it.

many people successfully reuse soil. Especially organic growers. I personally have yet to dump any toxins or chemicals down a drain I in my yard since going organic. It is true it takes space to properly rcycle soil, by it a worthwile.

yeah i won't be reusing my soil so i know its going to cost a lil more but this pro-mix is good stuff and menards has it here at a decent price so i'm not worried about it costing me too much. hopefully only go thru a few grows with it.

9 for 9 on tap roots using the paper towel method with the seedling heat mat under them.

9 for 9??? yeah i dropped a seed down the drain.... how... not sure. :P

seeds are in. how long do germed seeds take to show sprouts? i've always just planted the seeds and they would come up in 3-4 days... they've been in the ground for a day and a half so far. haven't checked them since yesterday late afternoon tho.

depends how deep you plant
iplant about 2x size of seed and they are up over night
i hate waiting for seed to get outa soil
then the first 10-14 days not much action
you will be in the green in no time
