Can I top??

Topping 5 times in veg your plant is in a state of shock almost constantly. Limits height severely.

Smarter to top once, then FIMM it (this is similar to topping FUCK IT I MISSED, u grab most of that upper inner growth and yank it off but not all of it). This will make 4 colas out of 1.

after u fimm it, within 10-14 days tie down all those colas if possible so tops are at same height

after each topping or FIMM, give plant time to recover.

This is the grey area for me. I get that "time" to recover is essentially waiting for new nodes to come in. How many? I've heard 3 is safe, but clearly people who are harvesting autos with a score of dense colas aren't waiting that long between tops. So what...two? Can I just top again after the first node comes in?
Also, what counts as a single event of topping? For example, if I top a plant and have 2 new main colas, can I top both of those the next time I go topping?

Ah, I've never grown autos.....Just fems or regs

If u make a mistake with autos theres less time for recovery I'd guess.

maybe just FIMM once, u get 4 tops.....not 2
risk one plant, might payoff huge

What about rate of topping for photos? Do you gauge recovery by weeks or by counting new nodes? Could I top two colas on the same day?

Also, can't you achieve a similar effect by paring down the side branches that grow out after your first top, instead of topping over and over?

Yes to the second part . I have found that is the best method I end up w multiple colas, sorry if being rude I'm new

How many bud sites do u want? It looks a little crowded tbh.
I want as many as possible. I’ve been lsting for about a week. I’ve done it to the two main leading stems after the first top. And the set of leaves growing under it. The two fan leaves in the middle make it look crowded cuz they keep getting bigger by the day. What should my next steps be

Yeah, but you eventually reach diminishing returns where you have more buds, but each is smaller than they would have been with fewer sites.

That's why I only top once a couple weeks after transplanting, develop some more main branches and that's all, instead of having 1 straight stick you get multiple main limbs and the same buds.

I did the same on all but one of my plants. Interestingly, all the plants that were topped are more vigorous than the plant that wasn't topped. But on the flip side, that little Christmas tree has an almost comically long single flower on the main cola (and a couple of squat buds on side branches anyway). So that's neat.
