Foxtailing buds

Great idea, I have a Volcano. I'll have to give it a try. My only problem with my Volcano is no matter what temp I set it at I seem to get a far more cerebral high than in a joint. But I'll have to try that.
Thank you!
i want a volcano. i need to get some type of vaping device at some point. any suggestions on a herb vape pen that has a good sized bowl though?

That's the strains I usually try to grow. Cerebral. I find after a few months of jar they usually change a bit. I actually prefer milky clear. I ran a c99 until very ripe once. Very sleepy. Got to see what you like. We are all different.
i prefer the more “stoned” highs for sure. i always get into the “is it premature” not sure if im high mindset if i take it too early.
the week 7 (day 49) sample bud i took got me too paranoid. i usually test the high by taking 1 hit before going into work. i feel for me personally thats the best way for myself to determine if the smoke is good

ah i see. well i figured i definitely wanted to go at least the breeders recommended time before i chopped. anyways tonight i will start 48hrs of dark and chop at 9 weeks 5 days since 12/12 flip.

-looking to be around 60/40 milky/amber on a few of the cola tops old calyxes i checked.
- bottom buds look to be 20/70/10 clear/milky/amber
-plant is definitely not drinking like she was, i have run CANNA’s suggested ripening dosage of nutrients for a week and have achieved a good fade
-took a cola off that was so heavy it was leaning against the tent wall
- secured a few others to prepare for the darkness to end
-starting dark cycle after a watering so i can keep moisture in the buds for drying in a dry enviroment

the buds from the HLG are super dense, these lights are great.

looks to be 42 cola tops (including this one)
typically the buds dry to 25-30% of wet weight so looks like i will hit my yield goal of 1 gram/watt.
By checking the trichomes and correlating them with the smoke the same day you get to dial in what you like. Some of us like all clear, others all amber and a the majority somewhere in the middle.

Anyway we all learn on each grow!

yes ive never had anything close to all amber so im excited to see what this finished product holds. i think once jarred and cured ill have a good mix of trichomes between the tops and bottoms throughout the harvest

I've been happy with my Pax.
I have a Pax3, seems like it wastes a lot using flower, and the concentrate dish is only good for tiny amounts. I'd take the flower waste if it was actually concealing what you were doing but there is still lots of "vapor" and smell
I'll stick to bongs and pipes, if i'm in a pinch i carry a vape pen, but don't run into needing it much as it is legal here

Yeah, I carry joints. But the Pax is a good , herb vape. If you've tried any of those silly skillets it's true. Now if we want to dis cuss how silly dry herb vaping is I'm there. The tech is abysmal. You barely get a lungful.

I experimented with a plant that fox tailed like nothing I’ve ever seen before!
She was flowered at the same time and in the same room as 3 other strains that did not foxtail at all.
I took some clones of her prior to flowering and not knowing she was going to foxtail,
I decided to see if I could get the clones to foxtail less than the mother by moving light further away, dropping room temp dropping my co2 levels in the room etc. they foxtailed the same as their mother.

i took a screenshot of a thread I started a while back.
A couple of old school growers said it’s got sativa traits as they’ve never seen full indices foxtail.
And foxtailing is genetics!?
They reckoned that foxtail buds used to be prized back in the day but now it’s frowned upon for having shitty bag appeal.
They also said that crazy foxtail buds can sometimes be sooo potent. And I agree. Take a look at this pic! Haha.B0AFE7B7-CE15-416F-88ED-16E34EED5723.png

Notice the small little oval shaped sugar leaves in the bud. that doesnt look like genetics, but reminds me of high N in mid-late flower. Likely wouldnt have been so foxtailed with a lighter nute strength. Just my .02 though. It is true that some strains can/will display foxtailing no matter the light/feed/temps etc.

Totally agree red! It was a very nitrogen sensitive pheno. I cut the nitrogen right back on the second run and made no difference.
I personally think that you can make a plant foxtail worse under stress but my second run with her was as close to flawless as I could of done. Maybe it was just a bad seed destined to foxtail like that no matter what??

Can we have a discussion about ‘stacking’ and fox-tailing? I think that the fox tailing structure like show just above has been modified and used in the modern structure of buds. And ‘stacking’ is just the beginning of foxtailing. It does look strange. But imagine if it was left to go for more time? Would they get longer and longer? And just keep going and going? What if the way we are harvesting these plants isn’t the most efficient, and we should be cutting off the foxtails after they are so long or mature?

This high temp BS for led is exactly that BS. I found its more about the right ferts and the right amount at specific times to get healthy plants using led. I run at 75f max in one of my test areas with quantum boards and there healthy as can be. Took me some time to figure out that a specific amount of high N right before bloom and through first 2 weeks was the issue many have with led which causes them to run these high temps over 82f then they get foxtailing.

Yes the foxtails keep growing to a point, when the buds are stacking.
Why would you want to cut them off? Let them grow and mature and smoke them!

Yes, what if you let them get long and mature, then cut them off, and then let the whole plant continue to put out foxtails, and then let them get long and mature. How long could this go on for?

From what I’ve learnt, and this is just my opinion......
it’s genetics but stress can encourage this genetic trait.
Like what Booms said about over doing nitrogen in flower or others say heat stress can trigger foxtailing etc.
Another thing I learnt is that if letting a plant go for too long that is foxtailing will have a higher chance of throwing bananas, which is also a sign of stress.
