Mutation after topping ?

You just snipped the tops of the tiny nodes I think. Look way worse after a FIM.

What's with the paper or whatever it is under the plants? You don't want to restrict air flow around the stem and trap moisture around it or it could lead to stem rot and kill 'em fast. They're looking good now.

I pinched the top off before the side nodes were even visible.. also the paper is a product my hydro shop sells that is made specifically for hydro to stop light from getting to the roots.

Guess you'll just have to wait and see what happens to the leaves as they grow out then.

The only place light might get in is around the inside edges of the pot and that hi-tech light cover doesn't cover the edges. Add more balls to the pot to make sure light doesn't get in. Some of the pots I have had holes nearer the top edge so I ran a bead of electrical tape around the top inch or so of holes as no roots ever come out that far up the pot anyway. The things they come up with to take our money eh. ;)

Thanks man that’s a good idea.
Any idea about my root problem ?

Made specifically for hydro? It's a square piece of material with a hole in the middle and a cut. How much do they charge for that? When I grew DWC I just filled the nets up to the top with hydroton. That isn't even covering everything. You could have just cut a piece out of a cardboard box and accomplished the same thing.

It was 5$ for 100 of them it’s rubber on the bottom almost. Any idea about my root problem. Please look up at the last post

Do the nutes you use make the nutrient solution brown? If not then might be the start of a root issue. They look all bunched up at that one spot. Is it slimy to the touch?

I'm not liking that dark area on the roots. It's normal to see them get tan as they age tho the ends that are constantly growing should be white and fuzzy with root hairs.

I'd dose them good with food grade peroxide if you can get it. I just picked up a litre of 35% at the health food store tho have a half one here. Before making a DIY chiller I always gave them 0.5ml/L twice a week to prevent rot starting but I'd use at least 2.0ml/L every 2nd day for 3 or 4 doses to kill what may be starting. Even higher doses daily can be used if rot has taken hold.

I've never used beneficial bacteria stuff in DWC. From years of reading all sorts of stuff about growing it seems to work if used from the start to prevent rot but isn't going to save your plants once rot has set in. I helped a guy that had bad rot a couple years ago on the now defunct Cannabis Culture forum and told him to use 4ml/L daily for a week and it worked. He had serious rot going on when he reached out for help but his plants survived and he got a great crop.

I'd get on that PDQ as rot can take over in a day or two.

It’s hard like gum. They are stuck together. Should I cut it out ? It’s my main taproot.. my nutes are brown but I’ve never had this problem

I've cut off all the roots just under the bottom of the pots before and they grow back quick. The thing is tho that the anaerobic bacteria that cause the rot are swirling around in your nutes too so cutting that out isn't stopping it. It needs treatment of some kind and peroxide has always worked for me and has no harmful chemicals or breakdown products like chlorine does. Some peeps use pool shock but I never would.

Ok I’ll go shopping. It s been starting slowly over 2 weeks. If it doesn’t go away and it being my main tap root can I cut it off? And even if the brown spot is in my air zone will the peroxide still kill it ? It’s really only in that one spot About an inch big poking out the net pot. If I cut it out my plan would be to do a full res change after the cut.

You can cut it out if you want. The good section above will branch out to supply the main part again.

When using peroxide I'll mix some up in water at the same ratio I'm using in the rez and pour it through the net pots to top up the tub then just add the balance of the peroxide slowly to the tub directly. Pooping bubbles from the airstones get everything wet in that sir space so both nutrients and peroxide get splashed around by the water droplets too. That area is almost like aeroponics in that way.

Great so personally If you were in my situation would you peroxide it or just go for the cut and water change ?

Even a water change will leave the problem to flare up again without treatment. Two days after a change you'll be back where you started and I'm not shitting you when I say that it can take over and kill your plants in a couple of days. You'll walk in and your plants will be looking like they are dying of thirst and then it's an emergency situation that they may not survive.

I had it happen to this plant I revegged alone after cropping a bunch of plants from one tub. It had been sitting in a soup of old nutes for a month or more but was growing new branches all over so I decided to clean out the tub and put a fresh charge of veg nutes in. The next day I walked in to find this.

DyingGirl01.jpg

It wasn't root rot but the sudden change in nute concentration must have reversed it's water flow. I'd heard of this happening but never had it happen before. I saved it by spraying a fine mist of water all over 3 times a day making sure to get the undersides of the leaves where they can drink better and after a few days she came around and I only lost one large branch off her. Got a great yield at the end as well.

Here's one of the DWC ScroG grows I've done. This one 10 years ago. lol One plant.

Oh wow crazy scrog! I’m scheduled for a water change tomorrow anyway so should I peroxide before, after or both ? I’ll wait to cut until I see if that works. But like I said it’s not slimy it doesn’t smell and it took 2 weeks to become like that since the first sign of it

I'd treat with the nute change. How often are you doing a change? There's really no need to change at all during veg. I just add small amounts of nutes to keep the ppm at the target range or raise it as the plants get bigger and can handle more. Mostly throwing out perfectly good nutes like they want you to so you need to buy more often.

I'd mix up a few litres of just water with the peroxide at least 2ml/L to pour slowly thru the net pots to kill anything in there and there will be lots in there to re-infect the whole rez if not treated.

ok thanks. I tend to use the nute change once a week and top up with just ph”Ed water

I would top up a tub every 3 or more days with RO water. THEN check the ppm and add more nutes to get it where I wanted it or raise it up. No need to check pH with AN and if you do add pH up or down you'll screw them up. If using tap water you pH that to 7 then add the nutes but don't bother checking he pH again or doing anything to it.

Weekly changes with small plants is a total waste of time, nutes and money.

Alright thanks for the tip!! So at what point would you give up on treatment and cut away the brown parts ?
