Got a stubby plant, growing slower than my others

I’m growing six plants under two 600w lights, they all seem to be doing well except the runty one in the first pic attached. The others are thriving. I’ve also noticed it’s growing in strangely compared to the others.. like width instead of height AND width. Just hoping nothing is wrong with it. This is my first grow and I want my plants to live their best life Any help or advice is greatly appreciated. Also, if anyone has any advice on when/if I should top my plants being that it’s my first grow, thank you in advance.

Your plants look good. Are they all the same strain?

Actually they are all different strains, could possibly be that and I’m over-worrying

Some take their time more than others, even when growing the same strain you get different phenos, so whike one plant could be long and stretchy the other can be short and bushy (sativa/indica) but yet come from the same batch of seeds.
If you grow a few of the same strain you will almost always find 1 that will take the lead and 1 thats a bit behind.

Its hard with a first grow but try to do what you need to do and gwt out of there for a while, most new growers cant help but keep their heads in the tent and that normally ends up doing more harm than good. But it seems like you are off to a good start

I planted two sprouts the same day, about 4 weeks ago. The one on the right is about 16" tall, and the left is 10" Same strain from the same seedbank. Plants look totally different, so I asked the same question last week...and got the same answer.

Looks like we're on the same journey together. This is my first grow too, and I agree that it's hard to keep my head out of the tent. I just check it every morning when I get up around 5:00a. I take a pic and it's amazing to see how fast these little buggers grow when you look back over the daily pics.

As for topping: I was told to wait until the 4th level happens. Not sure if that was right or wrong, but I watched a lot of videos and read a lot of threads here on the subject. I've topped mine about 3 times now and have a bunch of "tops" growing on one of my plants. (the right one.)

Something else that I just noticed, only because it happened to me too. I think you have too much "sidewall" on your pots. Like, there isn't enough dirt. So the walls of your pots are shading some of the light from getting underneath. I had about 5" of sidewall in my 5gal pots too, so I cut them down so that only about an inch was showing, and the plants really started thriving after I did that. Just food for thought. Perhaps since they're still relatively small, you could find a way to add dirt and raise them up a bit, or if possible, cut down the sidewalls. I was using fabric pots, so it just took a pair of scissors for me to do the job. Good luck!

Those pots look much bigger then 5 gallon to me. The plant on the right is smaller then my 4 week plant, and that stands only 13" high. I use 5 gallon pots this year, had used 7 gallons prior.

FIMMED once, none topped. small plant is 20 days old, not topped or fimmed

Thank you for the info!! Will try to add in soil slowly over the next few weeks since cutting the plastic would be a pain.

Same lol. I’m always checking on my plants. I try not to because I think I’m getting obsessive haha. Good luck to you, your plants look huge to me! I can’t wait until mine get that big. I’m probably going to switch to flower about two months into veg! And i think that sounds like a good time to top, they still seem fragile right now.

Even if he doesnt smoke growing something together can be a great bonding experience... and who knows... maybe he will want to try the fruits of his labor , feel free to post a link if you start a journal and i will tag along

Haha, its a "thing" the first grow or 2. Checkin up on the lil girls.....the less u enter the tent and touch them the better though........now I just check on RH + temps via the tent "window" and turn on exhaust fan or change its speed.......only enter to water twice a week now.

You'll be shocked at how quickly it happens. Take a pic on the same day every week, and then look back at how they grow. There's a reason they call it "Weed" as it grows like one. Mine are only 4wks old right now. I look back at pics from Jan 28 when they first sprouted, and it really is amazing.

Hey bud, No time to panic, you look healthy. Finding stabilized varieties can be hard as most everything is hybridized, I never cull unless it's a plant health issue. Many of my wilder and weirder girls gave up some unique characteristic.
As for topping, that depends on the strain, your available space. it's a lot of personal choice, I strongly suggest keeping a written journal detailing what you are doing and when you make changes [light, nutes, topping etc,], it makes each consecutive grow easier.
