Starting week 7... could they be this early?

Hi yall...

I have 4x dinafem diesel on the go under samsung led with deep red hlg qb pucks.

It's the 1st day of week 7 since 1212 flip.

Thing is.. looking at 2 of them most of the top trichs already look smokey white and there are a couple of brown ones.

According to my schedule I should be feeding for another 2 weeks before flushing.

I'm wondering if I should start flush early. Was thinking of backing off on the nutes at least. Keen to get others thoughts?

They are looking nice. They definitely still have weeks to go. They are still covered in fresh new stigma which means they are still growing new buds for you and putting on weight. I'm not sure where you checked the trichomes, but you always wanna check on the actual buds, not on leaves. You also want to judge the whole plant, not just the upper most bud. Don't be afraid of some amber trichomes, its gonna happen if you want the maximum amount of cloudy trichomes.

I would just keep doing what your doing for atleast 2 weeks, then make a call on whether to taper or flush if you decide to. Personally I stopped years ago, but its your grow.

Just to check.. are you both saying you don't bother flushing at the end of the grow at all?

New study out showing it doesn't do much. Personal choice. And you do have loads of time left. Watch pistils if you have no way to see trichs. Full red hairs that start disappearing as bud swells. Then you are almost there.

And always go by the buds and how they look. Harvest times should be considered as guidelines...and certainly not carved in stone.

Yep I stopped flushing years ago. I did several side by sides with identical plants and never found any benefit to flushing at harvest.

The keys to good weed are, good genetics, being grown well until they are fully ripe and then drying them nice and slowly.

I think you are doing such a good job that you will be surprised by how much bigger they will get. If you really want to know if all this is true then do a simple experiment, cut a couple buds off now and quick dry and smoke them. And see how it feels.

Also as for the flushing the discussion can change depending on if it is in soil or hydro, and for what reason to flush. I couldn’t tell by the pictures what medium you are in?

I read it. Interesting. There were no sources cited, but if it is a real study then the debate continues: to flush or not to flush.

One reason I might flush: tobacco: leaves are cut and left to slowly turn yellow, and then they are cured. This makes them taste ‘smoother’ and more flavorful.
Perhaps there can be a connection to growing this plant, where the less green and more yellow the buds are the more smoother they could become. Flushing brings the plant material that much closer to yellow. Might not work for all plants, this might work for a plant with high leaf to Bud ratio. The drying and curing process are also integral parts for this to work.

OP, are you using a loupe or 60x microscope to view the trichomes. You have to have at least 60x and you have to get deep into a bud to do a count. Also, the top most trichomes, and other trichomes that are close to lights or heat can be ‘burned’ and turn Amber much earlier.

As for to flush or not I say at least cut back on nutes, the study from above says there is pretty much no difference anyways, so saving $ is a good idea.

I'm using an x60 loope. Can see them just fine. I also have an x100 electronic... I'll take some pics later.

The lights are strong... so yes... could be over exposed. From what I remember seeing yesterday there was a couple of DARK brown trichs which was concerning

A few look cloudy, and are those on the leaves or the buds? You ALWAYS go by the buds.

You can't look at them from the top, you have to look from the side. From the top, the bulbous head magnifies the stalk of the trichome and can falsely appear cloudy. From the side, you can actually see the true appearance. Most of yours are clear still, really your plant has weeks to go still. They mature slowly, it's not gonna happen overnight. You shouldn't be even looking at trichomes for a few more weeks until your plants have finished growing and start to ripen.

Its REALLY easy to harvest plants early and prevent them from reaching their full potential.

Its REALLY hard to harvest plants too late and degrade their qualityl. I've never seen someone accidentally over ripen a plant.

Still going strong... been backing off the notes now as some of the leaves looked like they were getting mag lockout. Taken the juice down to about 1.5 ec for a few days. Might crank it up slowly again to about 1.7 for about 7 more days before final flush. Looking good though!
