Staggered harvest, who’s done it? Opinions

I plan to harvest my medical cabinet in stages, first by trimming the top layer of colas then lowering the light to the bottom canopy and ripening for a few more weeks then harvesting again. 60cm x120cm (2x4ft roughly) coco clay ball mix roughly 30% coco under 220w of led,

question relates to the feed schedule, how long do people flush for before harvesting the top and then how long do people ripen the bottom for on average ( I know there’s a lot of variables)? In terms of what they start feeding after the first harvest just wondering if people lower there ppms further or if they revert there nute schedule back to say week 5or6 and start again from there, I’ve never done a staged harvest before so any help or Input from someone that has would be much appreciated

Once you have started lowering nutrients for main harvest, I dont think it would be advisable to begin upping them again.
Just lower the lights accordingly, maintain environmental conditions if optimum, and continue the lowered ppms or water only.
They should ripen within a week or two.
Good luck.

Thanks man I was leaning that way I’m thinking a 48 hour fresh water flush for the tops then continued low strength nutrients for another 1-2Weeks till I’m happy with the bottom, if anyone else has opinions on this feel free to share :bigjoint:

I like to chop it all down and would rather wait until the lowers are ready to chop, i’ve tried staggering but honestly as I saw the lower buds swell all I could think was”i should’ve waited to cut the other buds too”....IMO staggered harvest are for when you run out of smoke

cheers man you make a very valid point, In the past with my larger hps runs I’ve always had that same thought process.

im restricted with size this go round, my canopy is DENSE Like night and day between bottom and top it’s the only reason I’m considering it this round to try squeeze out a few extra grams.... I should’ve lollipopped but brain fart moment it happens unfortunately :wall:

Curious to know how staggered harvests have worked out for other people. Whenever I have tried it it has resulted in properly ripe buds on the lowers, but the lower buds never put on much additional weight or became denser during the extra week. They just look a lot better, probably smoke better too. But that's only when the lowers are completely shaded by overcrowded plants, if there is lots of space/light they don't seem underdeveloped in the first place.

Well I assumed that's why the walls have reflective or white surface so there is not really a need for this...

I normally harvest in 2 stages, but I am usually growing large plants, so the benefit is two-fold. Not only does it allow the lower buds to fatten up and mature...It also gives me a break from trimming for a week or so. I'll usually let the lower buds go for an additional 1-2 weeks...I'm running super soil so no extra nutes are needed, and they do seem to fatten up considerably!! Or if i am in a hurry and don;t want to wait the extra time, I'll use the lower scraggly buds for bubble hash.

Well it's simple, at every stage in a plants life they require different nutrition. If you have Clones, Permanant Moms, plants in Veg and 2 different stages of flowering then you have a different food for each.. That's 5 right there, Moron!

Ripens the lower sites for sure but i dont think its worth the extra time. Dr who says they often test higher than the crowns. Yes it works but not worth the extra time in my small area.
Dont worry about leaching just reduce the nutes as normal in late flower, Drop em for a couple days for the plant to recover and go again as normal in late flower.

Right well get off your high horse and read the thread title... never asked about different batches for different stages at the same time, I asked about a staggered or stage harvest... re read my post cause only one person in this thread doesn’t understand that and that’s you buddy... but keep hurling insults it makes you look so good :finger: you lonely or something mate

EDIT: took my insult out didn’t wanna be one of those guys,

Thanks for the tip man! I follow a lot of what dr.who preaches, man knows his stuff! I usually wouldn’t bother but I’m tight on space and am going to have the room free for an extra week or 2 waiting for some baby girls to come from a friend so I thought I’d try this for something different, thanks again for dropping your opinion man! If any ones got anything else to add keep it coming! Appreciate the insight from everyone :bigjoint:

That’s why I’m trying this, way over crowded in there, I went on holiday right when they needed to be turned and thought the extra 5 days wouldn’t do too much I came home to explosive growth... not exactly a bad thing but just not what I had expected lol

For anyone that comes across this my results were average, bottoms ripened more but didn’t gain any noticeable size. I doubt I’ll ever do it again, the very minor benefits were Outweighed by and the extra time and effort. 13oz (mostly popcorn with a shitty trim job) from 2x4ish with a Mars sp250, Smokes good! But not amazing Peace bongsmilie
