Hey everyone! I figured I could give a quick guide on how I SCROG my plants. All my grows are done in a 2x2x4 box. You don’t need to know lights, medium, temp and all that. This is specifically a how to SCROG thread.
I make a net insert instead of building one into my boxes. Simple wood trim, mason twine, and glue from a glue gun. Make your net how you wish but make it so it can be inserted. You won’t need it right away and you’ll also need it to be adjustable. My openings in the net are around 2.5”x2.5” but I wouldn’t go smaller than 2”x2”.
Once you’ve germinated the bud of your choice, let her grow till the 3rd tiller. This is when you’ll make your first “top”. If you don’t know what that is look it up. But you’re topping the plant one time to gain two. You’ll do this a few more times. But for now all you can do is top it once. I also trim a few bottom leaves. (Picture for example. This is topped twice)
Let her push up a few more tillers. This is where LST comes into play. Research this if you don’t know. I use pipe cleaners and mason twine. I’ll wrap mason twine around my smart pot. This will hold the pipe cleaners and branches together.
Make sure you gave the plant enough time to push up a bit since now you’ll be bending. I like to lightly pinch and twist the branches. Don’t be too rough, this helps you bend the branches and also makes them stronger later on. Pinched too much? Get some scotch tape and make a bandaid.
Now is where you’ll top again. This time top both leads. Remove two and gain 4. This is where you let it go a little longer than last time. Pushing a few more tillers. More LST.
Continue using LST on all 4 leaders pulling to the corners the box. I choose to top one more time. 4 for 8. This is up to you but I wouldn’t top any more than that.
Once all leaders are growing you can bring in the SCROG net. Bring it down into the plant just a little. You’ll want to start tucking the leaders. Let them grow through the holes long enough to reach the next hole. I try to fan out like a compass. You’ll be moving pipe cleaners and twine to help pull and guide everything. Let them pop up then tuck them back down. Trimming some fan leaves here and there to get more light in.
I keep going till I’m nearly at the end of the net all around. At this point if you kept pulling the leaders down and out, the foliage in the center should be a near even canopy with the outside.
Now is when I raise the SCROG net about 4 inches. Pull her out and trim up the bottom growth. Semi lollipop. Time to flip the lights to 12/12. You’ll get the final stretch back into the net. Help guide her through try to keep an even canopy and trim any fan leaves blocking bud sites. Just don’t go too crazy. But that’s about it!! Please any questions or comments!! I usually yield 6oz per plant this way. Cut the net when you harvest. It won’t be reusable but the frame insert will be.
