Depends on what you call "trim".
I *only* use the remnants of sugar leaves that are closest to the bud. The rest go to scrap. I also use all of my popcorn buds in my edible pile.
Throwing fan leaves into the mix will cause things to taste like shit.
Using sugar leaves and/or bud will result in decent product.
My theory for myself (and my wife who is my better-half trimmer) is when in doubt, throw it out.
I get about 1oz of good quality cooking sugar leaf/larf bud product for every six ounces of trimmed product (dried), give-or-take.
Note that a significant reliability on taste is how everything is processed as well. What you throw into the mix has no bearing on taste, smell, efficacy or quality if the production of the mixture is crap...
