Choosing female seeds

Starting my first grow. Chose regular seeds. Would rather start out old school and learn as I go. Almost started with autoflowering but felt I was short cutting the learning process. Anyway happy with choice of strains, Sincity Dream n Sour and Bogs Bogglegum.
Found articles and videos on choosing female seeds. One guy on YouTube did this method and had 100% success. So I followed the instructions I attached.
Growing 4 plants in 3x3. They are just breaking soil after germination.
Do I need to keep exhaust filter/fan running as seedlings sprout? My humidity and temp are running about 75 temp and 30% humidity with fan on low, it's about 85 with 50-55% humidity with fan off. I think the fan off conditions are better for seedlings. I do have a humidifier which will get it in upper 30% with fan on low.

Lmao that’s the stupidest stuff I’ve seen. There’s really no way of telling if a seed is male or female unless you buy feminized seeds.

I hope you didnt throw away any seeds based on that. Just remove the males when they become apparent

Well I'm lucky to have you and all your wisdom.
But then the feminized can still hermi so you aren't guaranteed.

I didn't throw any of them away and have extra germinated expecting males. Just throwing out what I found online.
Honestly, it's exceptionally bad advice that is completely scientifically incorrect. Plain wrong. There is absolutely no way to tell by the seed itself the sex of the resulting cannabis plant.

We're getting a whole slew of new people showing up after completely ruining things due to watching random Youtube videos made by people who claim to be "master growers", but who use "broscience" and outright lies. It's very unfortunate.

Now that you know about that, let's get to the rest of what you've got. 85F is too hot, so you've got to figure out a way to get the humidity up, with the temp down. A variac (aka variable speed switch) for your inline fan may help. It'll allow you to adjust the fan beyond just a high-low switch.

You’ll quickly realise that there is a lot of bogus information online unfortunately.

You cannot sex a seed regardless of what anyone says or regardless of what a guy on YouTube tells you.

Word to the wise. Most people who post on YouTube trying to advocate something usually cannot be trusted.

And for your comment about feminised seeds carrying a greater risk of hermies isn’t necessarily true unless the strain in question is prone to hermies.

If the resulting pollen from creating some male flowers on a female plant was used to self pollenate that plant then I could understand the worry about hermies.

Choose a reputable breeder and you’ll generally not get any issues with hermies.

Also hermies and a female throwing some male bananas late in flowering are Completely different.

Fem seeds that aren’t stable yes can hermi. Well bred seeds will do just fine as long as you don’t stress them yourself.

Have variable control on fan. Just turned on fan and added humidifier.

Regular seeds can hermie as well. Do yourself a favor and ignore the majority of what you see on youtube regarding growing cannabis.

I wish I could give you 2 thumbs up for that post.

Appreciate the input. As I said I'm trying to educate myself, but not over complicate or get bad advice.
I also have Jorge Cervantes book "marijuana horticulture, the medical growers Bible". Seems I need to be careful about reliability of sources!
Currently got tent to 78 degrees with 42% humidity with humidifier on low and exhaust on medium with a couple vents open for passive intake. Got a small fan also moving air inside tent.

Here's a good site for information: https://growweedeasy.com. I can't say I agree with everything that they state, but I do the vast majority of it. Even what I don't agree with, I can't say that it's wrong, it's just I opt to do things a bit different after many years of experience. It's a quality beginners resource, that many on this site recommend to new growers on RIU.

Although 40% is low for veg, it's a lot better than 30%. Also, 78F is always my target temperature, so as long as you're at or below 82F max and try to keep it above 75F at the low end, you'll be good.

A couple of tricks to increase your humidity. Take a beach towel, soak it with cold water, wring it out and hang it in the tent. Adding a bowl full of water to the tent can help as well. Obviously the towel will need re-soaking from time-to-time.

I'll be adding a wet towel!

Not from me. There's nothing on youtube regarding cannabis I care to see. I only go to youtube for music or cooking. There is a plethora of music and some really awesome cooking channels. I do a lot of cooking so I'll binge watch cooking vids.

These are good

Here's another good tune that's fitting.

You can give them some N when they pop through soil and keep on them with small amounts. That can help reg seeds stay female. Stress will add to males so small cfl lights for 1st 2 weeks I've had good luck. Reg seeds are the way to go if you are patient fem seeds are great but not as good.

Every statement you've made here is false.

- Nutrients in no way whatsoever can help force a seed into a female plant
- Stress does not "add to males". Stress can cause a female plant to produce male pollen sacks
- Fem seeds are equally as good as regular seeds. They're created the same way as regular seeds, but the seeded plants were pollinated with pollen from a female plant, not a male plant
