Does root rot attack a single branch anywhere on the stalk? I dunno if it does or dont, figure it would affect the entire plant..The pic of the entire plant is the same pathogen as the last pics but it attacked the whole plant in that single case

In the past 10 years its only ever attacked a single branch, sometimes two branches but the whole plant was the first. I assume its the same pathogen because before it attacked the whole plant from the base it started with a single branch....

Since this is a recurring problem, it may be worth pulling that plant out of the pot and checking the roots. Just to rule it out if nothing else. The medium looks wet, how's the drainage?

Like I said sometimes it affect a single branch anywhere on the stalk, the branch slowly dies unable to absorb water and the rest of the plant grows fine

What you're describing sounds like somethings blocking the zylem. Or severing it. Like a larvae or other adult insect. Could be in the roots too. That would explain why some parts are unaffected. Anyhow if its just one branch prune it off. Cut it open and see what you can see.
Does that make any sense?

Lastly...think about treating your soil mix with bt for future grows. Probably wouldn't make a difference this grow. But bt kills microscopic larvae like nematodes. And its not too pricey and easy to get from Amazon. If ya need help lemme know.

Yes and no... it depends on the severity of the rot/damage.

Think of roots like veins (that dont bleed out when cut).. if you remove veins going to your arm, you'll likely lose the arm, but that doesnt mean your going to expire entirely.

The plant acts similarly. If only the finest of roots take damage, you'll notice a few leaves yellow/brown. Damage a few of the main roots, you'll take damage to entire pieces of your plant. If it's bad enough, it will kill your plant.

Based on the picture of the roots growing up out of the soil, they were oxygen deprived, either from being root bound in a tiny pot, overwater, or both. You can look for bugs in the stem, but it's not likely with the other evidence pointing to root issues
