How’d closet setups work back in the day, trying set dad up cheap rig

I have quantum boards, two 4x4, whatever. Dads wanting to run some old school not too smelly northern lights like he used to do back in the day in the closet. I know it used to work because I remember seeing it. No extraction fan, dehumidifier, filter.

I have a 24x24x36 tent I want to give him. It’ll hold 4 small plants, enough for him, and a decent light. I have a 4” fan I can give him, and duct work, but he can’t go drilling holes in the house or anything. Wanting him to have a good grow without mold issues from lack of “proper” exhaust but again as I said back in the day they did this stuff in the bedroom closet so how can I present this effectively? Thanks.

Yes its possible to grow in less than ideal conditions but you will get a less than ideal yield.

What is the year round temps/humidity where he lives? How about in the room where you want to setup the tent? Does he have AC in there to at least control the temps in the room? Is there a window close by he could exhaust out of? If not, since you will be giving him a tent, could you just set it up next to a window so that you can exhaust it outside? It will make keeping temps and humidity (and smell) under control a lot easier.

36" tall tent is going to be reallllly hard to pull off flowering in. He will either need to go straight from seed or rooted clones to 12/12. Even then it might require some training. I use pretty small pots for flowering (2 gal) compared to most people on here and I barely managed to squeeze 3 plants with a short 3 week veg into a 2x2x6. That was under an HLG 135W QB288. Even 1 gallon pots are like 8" tall. If you veg to 12" plants, and they double in size during flower they are going to be hitting your lights. Even with a QB you will need 2-3 inches minimum between the light and top of tent for airflow. I would do at most 1 plant in a 2 gallon pot and scrog it to keep it as low as possible. Even then I have doubts it will work.

Also if you can give specifics as the brand of quantum boards you will be using, we can give you a bit more guidance.
